TRAVELING WITH FILIPINAS

Travel Requirements for Filipinos

IN GENERAL, FILIPINOS TRAVELING ABROAD NEED ONLY TO PRESENT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

•    Valid passport – at least 6 months;

•    Valid Original visa for port of entry( when required); and

•    For tourists, a return ticket. (Memorandum Order No. MCL – 07 -019 issued on October 24, 2007).

   On the issue of human trafficking, the BI chief, Commissioner Marcelino C. Libanan, stressed that the problem is difficult to address because Filipinos have the constitutional right to travel.

            "They leave the country as tourists and the BI  cannot stop any Filipino from exercising his right to travel," he said, adding that tourist-workers leave as tourists from the Philippines to another country that is a take-off point for their final destination or work site.

            Libanan said that it was in recognition of Filipinos' right to travel that he issued a memorandum order last year defining the immigration formalities and procedures that immigration officers should follow in processing departing Filipino tourists.

BI Memorandum Order No. MCL 07-019 instructs Immigration Officers to allow the departure of Filipinos upon presentation of valid passport; valid visa where required; return ticket, when necessary, without requiring the submission of other documents except those required by existing laws, rules and regulations like authority to travel issued by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to unaccompanied minors.

does such a thing exist? i only have one passport i use for travel to/from doha and for tourism. it's actually easier to leave the country because they can see my working visa on the passport and they are sure that i actually have work and not some clueless victim of human trafficking sent to peddle drugs overseas (maybe that's what the immigration people think of everyone who go through them).the only other kind of passport i know of are only those used by government officials for official travel. there's the seaman's passport but i think they're not really passports.

You're not alone Kim. When I tried to visit Singapore with my OFW passport they stopped me. They were asking from me a job contract from a company in Singapore.  So, I applied  for tourist passport and cancelled my OFW passport. Then I was able to proceed to Singapore to visit my brother and his family. After that again I have to cancel my tourist passport to get an OFW passport to be able to come here in Doha where I was hired through a manpower agency who asked for one month salary as placement fee without issuing a receipt. I spent another 5k pesos for the processing of my papers there in P.I. We are helpless victims of our system of governance. This news is a victory for us OFWS and others and hoping more changes for our benefits will come from the government.
