Shameful acts

Straight Arrow
By Straight Arrow

Many of us had faced or saw shameful acts which we do not like to see, these acts could have taken place at work place or in shopping malls or in the area near your home,...etc.

If you have seen an act which you think it is shameful please write it and say why you think it is shameful and what ideally should be done and I also would like to see if others agree with it or no.

The purpose of this forum will be to minimize these shameful acts and maximize the good acts.

SA, I wouldn't bring in these two things together. Use of condom is independent of the sense of loyalty between partners. Again, I will say, transgressions should be treated in the correct frame of reference and background. To me, each case would be different viewing the background and their relationship status. In many countries or regions for some oppressed loveless wives, its not easy to divorce their husbands due to social or financial security. In such a condition, her transgressions shouldn't be seen in the same light as one who changes partners for the thrill of it.

People must use their brain first and analyze, the usage of brain is very crucial to over come the different challenges we might face in our life. A political person must not be hypocrite and use the correct word at the correct time.

One of the funny things which some people said here in QL is that the usage of condom provides safe sex, but people are not alarms which never forget, so I think it is better to be loyal to your partner and never have sex before marriage ( This is my opinion).

A simple question why some people decide to take a path which has a risk or a slight risk and not take a safe path which is easily available?

SA, we know from our sense of justice that many of the things you have mentioned are harmful for the long term peace and happiness of the societies and thats the reason they are considered illegal, immoral or both.

But, the definition of each needs to be understood first. Without a reference frame, degree and background, all these words find no real meaning.

I guess that equality does not contradict with natural.

Do you agree that the terms justice, fair, honesty, loyalty, ....etc should be universal?

Doha Knight how about if say no for the followings:

1. Adultery

2. Lie

3. Selfishness

4. Science has explanation for every thing

5. Prostitution

6. Bribes

7. Cheating

8. Hypocritical behavior

9. Bashing words

10. Being shallow minded

Do you also agree that a controlled and organized ownership will makes people life better?

Do you like the which respects you as human who has rights or a culture which ignores your rights?

What is the definition of a good culture?

The society will be happy if and only if justice and equality prevails in it. Man of normal intelligence is born with the sense of justice. But, some odd traditions and dogmas may deny justice to one section of the society..like, slavery, system of bonded labour, polygamy but not polyandry, unequal wages, social discrimination on the basis of colour, caste or creed and sex, oppression against women and poor, forceful conversions etc.

Anything which is against universal justice is shameful.

1. Different people have different thinking.

2. 22,000 yrs ago there was no peace because you said "they lived a very peaceful life, only having to worry about invasions from Southern tribes, who were looking for slaves. "

3. The concept which suits the majority is welcomed and there is an Arabic expression "Satisfying all is impossible" and another expression which says "Everyone view the people from his/her eye" and this means if some one is a good person will tend to think the people he/she face are good and if he/she is bad then he/she will the people he/she face are bad.

4. People are free to choose what suits them based on their knowledge and understanding.

5. You said if I am not hurting others by my actions I should be left alone.

Look up Inuit and Innu tribes SA.   I know people who live in Iqualuit with them, and say that, until they get their hands on alcohol (which they never previously had until Canada was colonized) they lived a very peaceful life, only having to worry about invasions from Southern tribes, who were looking for slaves. Considering that your questions are the least clear things on QL, and are dripping with your opinions, I don't think that I'm the "unclear" one here, but here's your answers.1) no I dont' think there is a concept that will work for every single person on the planet to make their life better.  Someone will always have a worse life because of someone elses concept.2) No, people are free to have their own opinions and live their own lives.  But if you're going to go on a public forum and state your opinions and try to get everyone else to agree with you, I'm going to disagree with you if you if I disagree with your opinions.3) Not at all, but I believe everyone should mind their own business and not force their opinions on others or believe that their way is the right way.4) I want a culture that allows me to live my life freely, without judgement or condemnation.  If I'm not hurting others by my actions I should be left alone.    What someone else thinks might be a better life for me, might not be what I agree with.  If I'm attacked or insulted for my beliefs, so be it, the person who attacked me is obviously incapable of respecting my beliefs.

there was peace and there was no fight between tribes?

See Pilgram I think you are not clear person and I guess almost every one here in QL knows that, I came to this conclusion because you do not answer simple clear questions and here are some of them:

1. Do you think that when there is a concept which makes people life better then it will be something good to have this concept?

2. Is it a must that other people should always agree with you only?

(From my side I say it is not necessary for all people to agree with me)

3. Is it necessary that what you think is right must be right for others?

4. Do you want a culture which has no limits so that you can be insulted at any time and attacked or a culture which respects you as a human being and protects you from diseases and ensures you have a better life?

In regards to stealing, stealing was not a concept to Native North and South Americans before Westerners started to settle.  It still isn't in Inuit communities.  All food, clothing, homes, cars, etc. all belong to the people as a whole.   There is also no concept of ownership in marriage, and men and women are free to live together as they please.  Are you going to say that a 20,000 year old culture is wrong?

"A thing which does not harm you or harm others and at the dame time it helps you save your life and improves you or your life is called a good thing."What is harm?  what you believe harms you might not harm me. What improves your life may not improve mine.  Even Muslims can't all agree on the what is right or wrong, which is why you get honour killings, debates about the veil, debates about capital punishment, smoking, etc. Some people have no issues with affairs outside of marriage and in fact have happy, healthy open marriages, and raise happy healthy children (look at Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, they have an open marriage). I doubt you will even find a majority of people who will agree on the proper punishment for murder, or even if a crime can be classified as murder (which is why you rarely get unanimous juries).

SA, you use three words in your first sentence that are not clear. What does 'stealing' mean? What is 'good'? And what is a 'thing'? Okay, let me tell you: everything a person owns privately is stolen! Stealing is a common action from the beginning of time. The first kings or leaders stole land from the humans (with military force). Just because they were stronger and more brutal, they became the 'owners' of land. Later, it was 'sold', and there were new 'owners'. However, they bought 'stolen' land. So, legally they don't own it, just as you won't own a car that had been stolen before you bought it from somebody. As I said, stealing is a common action and sanctioned by governments, because they do it ALL THE TIME!What is 'good'? Nothing 'universal', for sure. It's an opinion. Or do you mean, it doesn't kill me, or it saves the human kind? Okay, but some people say, the human kind isn't worth being saved. So your definition of 'good' ONLY works, if the preservation of the human kind is the target. But this isn't a universal idea. It applies for some people, and it doesn't for others! And then a 'thing'. What is a thing? What do you mean? If I look at things I find that they are nothing. In the best case I would say they represent something and that can be read from fields or forces that are present when I experience that 'thing'. But I still don't know WHAT it is. I only know what it DOES.

You use the word "identical" in the wrong way, SA. No two things can be identical! Simply because they cannot occupy the same spot in the space-time continuum. If you are at a certain place at a certain time, nobody else can be in that same place at the same time. Right? But time and space are not separable. Therefore, no two things can be identical! Being in a certain position at a certain time is part of the identity of an object!

The universal definitions and laws I meant by that is the common sense which many people agree on them.

When new borns are born what makes these new bornes grow identically?

for example if you look at class which have 30 boys, you might find that 28 boy has 10 fingers 5 on each hand and two boys might have 11 or 9 fingers of their hand in total, that means that 93.3 % of the boys are identical in the way they were born and if you take a bigger scale say a school with 500 boys for example and there 5 boys who have 11 fingers on their hand, one hand 5 and the other hand is 6, this means 99 % of the students are created identical.

shall I give more examples,

1. Driving the car careless most probably will cause to have an acciedent.

So driving safe reduces the risk of having acciednts and this can be considered as one of the universal defintions laws.

2. Eating healthy and doing some port activity helps to get healthier life.

LLP there are more which I can write but at the end we can help those who do not want to help them selves.

To be more precise there is big difference between shameful acts and feeling a shame.

Shall I explain the difference between day and night?

Shameful acts are the acts which are not liked by the majority of people, feeling a shame is the feeling when you fail to do things which you are told to do by your boss.

A kid can feel a shame if his colleagues can dance in a dancing class he can not.

Feeling a shame is useful if it moves you to correct wrong things which you are doing, example not doing what your boss told you is a wrong thing, if your boss blamed you then ideally you should feel a shame and do what your boss tells you so you will not be blamed again.

People who success in this life are people who learn from their mistakes and not repeat the mistakes.

I just want to back to the whole middle aged man with young SE Asian thing that was mentioned earlier and the horror and shame of Middle aged stereo typical Western fat bald guys exploiting these naive, innocent SE Asian girls - can I just say, the situation is quite the reverse!!!!!!!

The exploitation that goes on typically goes in one direction only - these guys think with their d*cks and on occasion their hearts - these girls almost to a one think with their heads!! The initiator of this this particular topic in the issue of "shame" think it was MBK is naive in the extreme and the thinking that is being demonstrated is 1970s/80s thinking when yeah there was exploitation by Western guys over SE Asian girls - that isnt the case now and hasnt been for some considerable time. Anybody who thinks otherwise should check out internet cafes in Bangkok for instance where the naive innocent little thai girls are on a daily basis sending out volleys of e-mails to their "sponsors" declaring undying love and affection and the "oh, can you send me another $1000 my big heart because "my Muder sick, need opelashun..." Ruv u long time ........"

Who challenged God?

Take the titanic ship for example, the Brazailian president, ...etc

This is a short story but nice, there was a man who worshiped God in the caves in one land, the king of this land was not allowing people to worship God and the king knew about this man in the cave, so the king went to the man and the man was praying so the king kicked the man, the man took a jur and throw it on the king hand, the king screamed, the man said to the king what do you want, the king said I have some questions for you

1. You say there is God if so , why do not see God?

2. You say there is fait, can you prove it?

The man said I will answer you in the court, in the court the king was there, the man said now I will answer you:

1. when threw the juror your hand you had pain right? The king said yes, the man said did you see the pain? The king said no

The man said so the man said pain exist but you do not see it

2. The man said to the king my fait and your fait is that We meet here in the court in this day.

The moral of this story it is not necessary to see things to prove they exist.

Another short story is that there was an atheist teacher telling the students that God does not exist because you don't see God, one student stood up and said teacher we don't see your brain so you are crazy you do not have brain.

A shameful act is to use bashing words when you are proven wrong and very good list by Doha night.

For individuals...

-knowing about the impending food crisis, having more than one or two children is shameful ( South Asian countries )

-not giving equal rights to women is shameful ( Arabic countries..especially KSA)

-Hiring maids for household work and treating them like animals is shameful ( most cases in Arabic countries)

-Being Careless in using water and energy should be termed shameful( Most Arabic countries)

- Cutting trees and urban encroachment should be shameful ( All countries)

And for countries...

- Not going for renewable energies and sticking to burning fossil fuels should be considered shameful ( All countries)

-Ruling the country by the barrel of the gun is shameful.

-Unauthorised interference in other countries' affairs should be shameful.

-Arm twisting other countries is shameful

Theres only one simple test, ask god to provide you with a clear proof for his existence within a week, After that week, if you have got a proof that god exists, send me the evidence, If not, there are only three reasons I can think, 1)God does not exist 2) God does not want to 3) God cant give you this evidence. So if you get no response then there is no God.

I might sound a bit boring and philosophical but this is how it is..

Since the beginning, nature has been governing the actions of all animals, including human beings with two basic guides; pleasure and pain. When societies formed, any action which was considered to bring in sustained happiness to the society was considered 'right' and the ones which brought 'pain' and discord were termed as 'wrong' actions. This was based on the unwritten law that the ultimate objective of living is to bring about long term peace and harmony to the society and thus to the individuals.

Since wrong-doers started getting punished, the feeling of shame got associated with 'wrong' actions. The developed intellect, with the social paradigm formed the conscience in the minds of the people.

Needless to say, the feeling of shame, till today, is dependent on the culture and religion of the region. It also depends on the situation and when acute survival instincts are required, an apparently shameful act may not be shameful at all.

So, to me, in a general sense, a shameful act is that which comes in the way of the long term peace n harmony of the society.

saad, it is cultural. In other cultures even parents take care of themselves, and don't expect or want to be taken care of by their children's families. Now, when I say taken care of I mean they do not expect and often don't want to live with their children's families or expect to be given money by them.Of course there are some families that do all live together or help their parents financially, but this is not something "expected".The "extended" family is simply not something common in some cultures. That does not mean that they don't interact with each other, of course they do, but there is neither finacial obligation nor pressure on having parents live with their children.

Pilgram, despite you being here for 5 years its quite evident that you dont know the difference in what culture is and religious belief is.

Yes, if the man had worn shorts above his knee and if he is a muslim then, yes is is shameful but if its below and wearing a proper tshirt then its not.

With regard to the women, its NOT a compulsion on anyone to wear a Niqab but its based on religion and bit of culture alone. If one is religious then she can do so, in fear of God only. In Qatar there are many muslim women mainly the expats (shamefully, in my humble opinion) wear tight fitting, clothing exposing the shape of the body. Thats their opinion and their belief.

But women wearing Niqab are NOT forced. its a requirment of the religion, just like the Nuns of Christianty have to. If you see a Nun walking down Cornishe will u admoish her to for being forced into wearing a thing like gown with head cover???its her option to be religious and to please god...How is that shameful???Its in the same lines...

At the same time if you see a woman dressed in tank tops, she is supposed to be NOt shameful is it... she chosing to expose more than 70% of her body to strangers who obviosly will glare at her???the next thing is she is being followed, hawked, raped and thrown in a gutter like a prostitute...who intitated what here???and who was shameful in the first place???

1. Countries like Spain and Italy which produce a lot of tomatos and then make a festival where tons of tomatos are wasted and people gather and throw tomatos on each other, isn't it better if these countries sent these extra tons to poor countries which need these tomatos?

Same for those countries which throw their extra fruits and vegetables in the oceans so that they say we have met the budget.

Ingeniro I have nothing against women who choose to wear Niqab, what I find shameful is that men aren't forced to wear something similar.  I also find it shameful that a man would force his wife to wear niqab and then go walking with him in the heat, while he's able to dress in half the clothing she is.  I find that shameful. What beach are you talking about Risks?

Here is what I think is a shameful act.I sat in the QA departurelounge with my son the other day.Not far from me sat a local gentleman. He started talking to me, introducing himself. He told me he was on the way to another, nearby country to go drinking and to meet "friends".He then tried to get my mobile number from me, so that we could be "friends" later on in Qatar. He also told me that his daughter had just gotten engaged. Now, i don't care what this man does with his life, that is his business...but hitting on me in this way is ,IMHO, very disrespectful.

@Rizks- It depends on people's perspective... for some it is shameful.. for some it is an adventure ... For some, sex is still a taboo for some sex is a wonderful thing shared by 2 people in love (or more...LoL ..Kidding!)

It all ends up to each' own prerogative and perspective.

Now, how are you seeing it? :P

We need to respect the cultures of our host country, we may be used to wearing skimpy shorts and tank tops when we go to malls in our home countries respectively, but here we need to be more cautious of what we wear in public while here in Qatar.

Here the traditions are 70 to 80 % are from religion, in religion the woman can show her face and her hand only, man his face, hands, arms, and what is below his knees.

If you want to know why you can go to the Islamic websites and you might get good explainations.

Do you want the woman who puts Niqap to be naked of her beliefs and tradition or do you want the man to be forced to wear things which are not necessary for him?

places is better, of course this woman who is wearing Niqap will not dare to run or walk on the cornich wearing the same as the man because of the tradition and relgious side.

If this woman was told by her husband and agreed then there is no shame,  the shame will be only from the man who let his son and wife experience this sever condition.

It will be shameful if he forced her.
