Shipping Cars to Qatar.

Hello everyone! I have a question regarding shipping cars to Doha. I plan on purchasing a 2008 Dodge Viper from the US and ship it to Qatar for my personal use. My questions are:

1. Do I need anything from my sponsor?

2. How much is the Qatari Tax that I will be paying on the car?

3. Where do I go to find out more information about this?

4. How much is registration (for the plate number and all that good stuff).

5. Any additional information that i forgot to mention please let me know! Thanks!

The problem is with the Dodge Viper is that they are really rare, I only found one for sale in Qatar and its a 2006... its still beautiful but with the same price i can get a 2008-2009 in the US with lower miles. Thank you for your time!

cars made for GCC are more special they have configuration of a VHZ (very hot zone) the car wouldn't survive one week of summer in Qatar if it s not made for it

You need a letter from your sponsor addressed to the Customs Department for the release of car once it arrive here in Qatar.

The Qatari Tax will be 5% on the original price or the market value of the car in Qatar, whichever is higher.

Alot of clearance agents, who can provide you all the information.

You have to appoint an authorised clearing agent to deal with customs department as they don't accept direct dealing with the customers.

Once the car arrive, should be taken to Industrial Area for Inspectiona and once passed will be registered. All the documents should be produced in original at time of registration. Normal fees for registration of vehicle applies.

Shipping Charges 1,800 $~2,000 $ and take 45~60 days.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply! The belts and gasket shouldnt be a problem but i dont understand what they have to do with the climate? The spare parts shouldnt be a problem either, i talked to someone that works for dodge and unless hes lying to me, I should be good to go.  As for the computer systems, thats all rumors. It USED to be that car manfucaturers would build different cars for different countries but now-a-days they build one model that can take abuse from any weather. What I wanted to know was how much would it cost me to ship it to qatar. I need to add all the costs so I dont end up paying over my budget.  Thanks again for your post!

You may want to check out others' experiences with US cars brought here.  One person I know had to have all the belts and gaskets replaced soon after because the weather/climate here is not comparable to most of the US - yes I know it gets hot and humid and dusty in parts of the US but not constantly.

What would it cost to have that done and are you willing to foot the bill?

The other question is maintenance, spare parts etc. I don't know if it's true but I heard that the computer systems in US cars are not the same as the ones sold here and the diagnostic equipment therefore doesn't work - but perhaps someone has first hand experience in that regard.
