Small happiness
Human happiness is something that all human behavior is directed towards. According to Freud, human behavior is driven by two principles: eros (pleasure principle) and thanatos (death prinicple). Essentially both mean the same thing: satisfaction.
We humans yearn for satisfaction all our life. Some of us try to find it in worldly things, others resort to divine persuits. The motive always remain the same: happiness.
But why is it that very few of us really become fully happy and satisfied. Most of us remain devoid of happiness, are partially happy or never experience any happiness at all.
Much has been said as to why we humans fail to experience happiness to the extent possible. In my own humble opinion, one big obstacle toward happiness is the preoccupation with having the best or the fullest. It is the perfectionistic tendency in human nature which stops us all from filling our life with happiness.
For someone to be happy, it is not always a must that big things should happen. In fact, we can be happy with little things. Small happinesses could combine to produce a bigger impact. However, we seem to disregard this fact and always strive for big, major happinesses.
In modern life in particular, humans are always looking forward frantically to the future for some really rewarding things to happen. In this frenzy and impatient awaiting, they lose sight of the small good things happening every now and then.
Very few of us have realized the importance of focusing on the good things in the 'here and now' world. Instead, we always worry about things which may or may not happen.
Human happiness is transient, and we as human ought to realize that the time we spend worrying and wasting in thinking about good things is actually wasted and will never come back.
High Expectation of life will result in higher disappointments, which will mean less happiness. Expect less, give more and you will be happy and satisfied.
Happy endings!
