1. There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens.

2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are
state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.

3. Home considered a human right in Libya – Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home. Gaddafi’s father has died while him, his wife and his mother are still living in a tent.

4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar (US$ 50,000 ) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.

5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are literate. Today the figure is 83%.

Marcos has brought Philippines to the world by wide-range tourism projects and lifetime built roads and bridges, economy was good enough that locals doesn't need to go outside country to work and earn. Jobs are elsewhere and salary was enough for daily survival, with projects on economical supermarkets that sells low-price prime commodities, monthly sustains every corner of the country of "yellow corn",milk, instant noodles, monggo, sometime includes toys for kids,etc...no President in Philippines has made the same as Marcos had for his country. The big question is: why they'd urge him to step down?!..purely POLITICAL reason! Some greedy, ambitious politicians used their influence to brainwash opposed group and ignite the People Power!...they won! and gained power, money and until now, Philippines didn't recover its poverty!..poor constituents, never realized what loss was Marcos..as for me, also with Gaddafi!

As with the USSR, I wonder if in a few years time, many Libyans will hanker for the "Old Days" ?

I kind of can believe it. But even with all this, people weren’t happy. They wanted to be free.

Look at USSR. Medicine and education were free. Even after school developing centres for kids were free (piano, dancing, painting, sciences, any sport schools – ALL for free, chose whatever you want!). Homes (apartments) were given for free by the government. Electricity and water bills were peanuts, so was petrol. 25% of Russians have university degree. Access to the cultural facilities, such as theatre, art galleries, museums, etc., was either free or for very little charge. New mother got paid for each new born child, and got 4 months of maternity leave (2 months before delivery and 2 months after), then mother could stay home 1 year with the child and get 50% of her salary. Then mother could work shorter hours until her child is 7 y.o… and so on..

And guess what .. such “beautiful” system was overthrown with no regret.. why? there was NO freedom..

The guy never showed any mercy to all the people he did away with or the ones his cronies did away with in his name or because of his stupid policies and he must have never thought in his wildest dreams that he would receive the same treatment someday. The way the guy was beaten, banged, sodomized & his brains blown off and then left to rot in a broken down reefer container shows clearly how much the Libyans loved this joker

what happened there! For sure, Libya is now obligated to the nations that help it "liberated". Poor NTC indeed!

Even 50 % of what is written is correct then it makes Gaddafi a great leader.

He was brutally killed which is very inhuman and not accepted. The poor man was bleeding and pleading. Even man like Kassab was not killed by Indian Police though he deserved.

International court should take action against people who are responsible for killing him as it is against the law.

men who live lives so far beyond the bounds of justice often demand of us exceptional ends. Take bin Laden, for example. i'm a strong believer in the rule of law, and squarely against the death penalty so I certainly questioned his treatment when I first learned of his death.

What happened to Gaddafi the man matters very little in the bigger scheme I just hope that Libya got what it needed out of that lynching because that brutal chapter is now closed.

There are people who even think and act like an ostrich, who digs his head into the sand and assumes he is safe ignoring the realistic sitaution-- this is not hypocrisy needs analysis how come the world is under threat only due to middleeastern countries that too which have abundance of natural resources? Morroco has also the dictatorship But Uncle Sam's Favourite ruler, A Report Published shows that, most of the Morrocos coutnry land is private property of the ruler not people and suffering those people are far m ore than libyans or any other country.

Is this what these people demonstrating the principles of True Islam? where as if one goes back almost 1000 years into history he finds the ancestors had made an example of treatment with Captured enemy with kindness and forgiveness. Those thugs didnot know ABC of Islam but to mis-use the Gods name and greatness performing the Acts of Satanic nature.

Yes, it was, just a few short months ago. Hypocrites the lot of ya.

Formatted soul.. Answer is simple dear ! !

The OIL and GAS REserves and the Global Policeman's (AMERICA's) Intentions.

Though he was dictator but he did benifit the Libyans.

there are dual factors behind the murder of Qaddafi and Saddam Hussain as well. Both the cases has very close Similarity.

and

the Destiny of the Libyan have been written now ! ! .. Similar to

The Destiny of Iraqis !

This is True that, Ghaddafi was about to introduce the "Gold Dinar", he was about to made it mandatory for the Western and European States to buy Oil in Gold.....

2) Everyone knows, Western Countries including European member States wanted "Oil", did the same in "Iraq"....

3) Russian Prime Minister said "Who gave Nato and the Western Powers to intervene in Libya's Domestic Crisis"

4) Now USA and European Member States would have a Puppet Govt in Libya and "NTC" would take Libya into more Mess then now....

So why they want him down and killed him? Even celebrated for his death? If the president of the country is like this then i'd let him stay until he wants to.. (confused mode)..

Do you believe everything you find on the internet?

You really need to learn NOT to be so gulliable, dear.

If all that were true... could you please explain the reason behind the deaths of so many rebels who fought to get him out of power - its an insult to their memories to even believe that list!!!

One of my relative who is now based in USA told me that once during her works in Libya as a Gynae lady doctor in Libya was passing through a village and on road one lady delievered a baby girl in front of her and she helped her immediately and left the place. After two days she got a 2 Kgs worth gold tray with little diamonds studded on it and a Land rover car as a gift from Muammar Gddafi..She later came to know that she was in Sirte the village of Gaddafi and the lady who delievered the baby girl was housemaid at Gaddafi's Mom's place...

I was surprised to hear all this....

All this might have been on paper but the reality seems to be quite different. The guy and his sons were busy taking the libyans for a royal ride while looting the oil money and stashing it in swiss banks no wonder the Libyans hated them so much and the way they did away with this guys is clear what the local people thought of this Ghadaffi guys.

i was in libya in 2008 .. these peoples there are very generous and respectable and the have good behaviours ..

but they have moody president , with funny carisma ..

and libyans should tollerate his mood , since he refuse any political life to be done for the peoples there .. no parties or voting or any kind of elections .. he is discovering evry day new roles and the lubyan should follow .. actually they have great resources and they can do much better thing to their cities and education and life facilities .. any way this libyan affair .. their choices with or without gadafi ..

By the way i have asked some Libyans about this and they told me it's not true and that poverty and unemployement was widely spread in pro-Gaddafi Libya.

Over 30% of the population lived in poverty and unemployement was wrecking the country.

I agree with UkEngQatar. This war was not to decide the right and wrong. It was instigated to protect personal interests of Nato countries for capturing the control of the oil rich Libya. The people who fought to kill Gaddafi will soon pay for what they have done. Libya is going to be another Iraq.

By redtreble• 23 Oct 2011 08:34

If it was so great, why were there hundreds of Libyans out celebrating on the Corniche on Friday Night?

By anonymous• 23 Oct 2011 08:34

Cause like most socialist systems it failed and instead of reforms Gaddafi used public political executions to make people keep their fake smiles.

One era is over... good things ... bad things.... oil... money... lust for women... greed for power and money killed the man.

There are $200bn worth of oil and gas contracts up for grabs. Now Nato countries will fight among themselves to see who gets what.

Plus like Iraq the Libyan people will pay for the war to the west for many generations to come. War is not about right and wrong, War is all about Interests.

No matter how good or bad Gaddafi was, but one thing he did that no other Arab leader can ever dream of doing, Stand up to West, even though some of his tactics were deplorable.
