Doha Tribeca Film Fest Opens
The long awaited Doha Tribeca Film Festival Opened last night. AFP reports that
DOHA — Qatar opened on Tuesday its annual Doha Tribeca Film Festival with "Black Gold," a movie by French director Jacques Annaud partly shot in the gas-rich Gulf country.
Starring Antonio Banderas and Freida Pinto, Black Gold tells the story of two emirs locked in a feud after the discovery of oil, as a young leader emerges to unite the desert tribes.
Omar Sherif and Lebanese director Nadine Labaki were on the red carpet for the opening as well as Pinto.
Looks like quite the turn out! Were you there?
btw hw much a ticket cost ?
Doha Tribeca Film Fest is a big joke.... very poorly organized.
I agree, with redtreble. The seats felt like they were made to be as uncomfortable as possible. With the delay, the drawn out intro, and the 2 1/2 hour movie, I wasn't even disapointed that the cast din't speak or that Banderas and Freida Pinto weren't there. I just wanted to see if I could still walk!
I thought the movie was passable, at best. He built it up beforehand as presenting Islam and Arabs in a possitive, intelligent and peaceful light (even said "it's HIP to be Arab!") but for every possitive scene, there was at least one other bumbling, small minded, Arab cliche. Story was patchy, character development was rushed, yet it still felt needlessly long! Mark Strong's character brought the most interesting storyline, of traditional, cultural and social disconnect felt by Arabs in the dawn of the oil boom, but it seemed to be totally overlooked in the end. And while he did a very good job in his role, surely he is not such a global superstar that the film would have been hurt by his role going to a competent ARAB actor! I think it would have really helped the credibility of the film. THe Riz Ahmed character (Ali) stole the show, for me; very funny!
That being said, Katara looked fantastic and uncomfortable seats aside the venue was spectacular. Worth checking out, even if you do skip Black Gold.
I would like to exchange one ticket for "The Artist" on Oct 29 (Sat, 7:00 PM) for the same film but on Oct 28 (Fri, 10:00 PM). Please reply here if interested.
Plenty of tickets left, depending on the film you want to see of course.
i heard that tickets are sold out,is this true?
does anyone here sells ticket,i want to experience going to DTFF... :(
I went.
Cons - The lead-up to the film was just amateurish and awful. The so-called comedian was possibly the least funny man on earth. The seats were ridiculously uncomfortable.
Pros - After a ropey opening, the Film itself was surprisingly excellent.
Go see it when it comes out but get yourself a comfortable seat, it's a long film!
Awesome! The move is so genuinely creative!
