Well I am learning from you native cowboys lol but only English not your low-class actions, at least I am practicing, don't you think so?

old peter just like kids (hahaha)

By the way, I like editing a lot,

Ah another thing since you do not have an arabic keyboard, you can google it to see how you write Arabic as you said it took two years (wow what a slow mind) hahahah

Though I am sure when you talk in Arabic, you pronounce the words in a very funny way.

Waiting to correct for me (lol)

lol LP, and this was after her 5th edited version of the story. She probably does not know that people can tell when she edits! :)

I hope she writes more! hahaha

She should "learn" us how to write modern Inglis

little peter,

I really pissed you off and I am enjoying that because I can see you lost your nerves (hahahah) and you behave like kids.

I am not blaming anyone, from where did you get that clever boy?

Ah I know why you behave like that because you are an American cowboy and you but not all of you let's say some of you are famous for misbehaving with people.

As for your comment that we are not worthy, we Arabs at least have civilisation unlike yours and you are working for Arabs (lol).....

I am not taking pride that I know English "clever" boy read well please. Why should I? I was only asking in my 1st post and you cowboys attacked me. But as I told I am not astonished from peopel like you.

Manners and Respect little boy though I think you are an old man....because we can teach kids how to behave, but old people hard to teach them manners again.

It took you two years to learn Arabic (lol) and that is if you know how to pronounce well!! What a slow mind you have. For me, if I live in English-speaking country, I would take 6 months only.

Slave for money you people...

cowboy man boh....

pirate, this time you are right it was a mistake since I write fast when you implied that I wrote " learn"

But no one is infallible.

All westerners... well you guess pirate what do I mean? aren't you all genius as you claim so read between the lines..... they are so clear

I do not have time to reply again .... bye cowboys. Hope you know what I mean now

as you say

anonymous

Hahaha, hilarious how this woman truly thinks she knows it all ;)

Yes, you are the smartest person in here Sarah, since you can write English!

Just remember, many 9 year old kids have that same skill that you got. They even speak better English, but again, not sure what farm you graduated from.

Stop changing the topic. The topic is that you consider yourself an English teacher, when you know NOTHING about English language. You are 35 years old, but you type like an infant and then you defend yourself by blaming others for not learning Arabic?

We get hired in Qatar because most Arabs in here, like yourself are worthless in bringing any good to their roles. They speak good Arabic, but that's all they can do. However, they think they know everything again just like you. Companies would simply go bankrupt with your kind making decisions.

Stop blaming others for your very visible defects and if you want to teach English, you first have to learn English.

By sarah76• 23 Nov 2011 19:12
sarah76

You did not get what I mean. As for skin colour only racist would think like that.

Have you made a survey about all westerns who live in qatar!!!!!!

You say you have skills so why don't you work in your country why you come to Arab world? I reply to you because in USA, companies need high- skilled people unlike here in the Arab world who some of them get deceived by some skills conducted by western people and I feel pity for those who hire such people!!!!

When you say 5000 only the ones who are forced to work with such amount and you know what I mean, but we Arabs we object to such amount!

poor little peter,

Write to me in Arabic as I told you. We Arab talk English so easily since childhood it is not a big deal for us even if there are mistakes but we talk after all. But can most of you speak Arabic or even know another language you are famous for being ignorant in most languages. I hope you can realise what I mean though I am afraid no (clever) lol

Read between the lines (clever) lol

I am enjoying my time here because I know I pissed you off hahahaha

You are absolutely right Lawa. The point was that this woman wants to teach a language that she herself can't properly represent.

It is like me learning couple of words in Arabic and expecting to go teach it to people!..

Everyone speaks English these days, most schools in the world teach it and it does not take a genius to learn its basics, especially that it is widely known as one of the easiest languages to learn.

Some individuals take so much pride in learning it, when they have been exposed to it through out their life through internet, Movies, music, etc.

By lawa• 23 Nov 2011 16:48
lawa

As we all here from different nationalities working together in a common environment its a best opportunity for us to learn as much as we can for other languages which are not our native languages we must encourage the people rather than to disappoint them to show that they don't know about the language and what i found in my experience that you never hold command on any language by study but you can get speaking power by talking in that language with all its grammar

Arabic speakers on this forum are smart enough to know if what I wrote is from Google.

I would if I had Arabic Keyboard.

Why is she challenging others to learn Arabic Now?

she is the one claiming to be an English teacher when she would slip through the cracks of ESL!

yehey... day 2 of the grammar class.

By sarah76• 23 Nov 2011 15:28
sarah76

Again you are not answering my question, but first i have an elaboration

After all if an American talks to a British, Australian, or a Canadian they will all understand each other. There are little differences in spelling but not huge differences. I am not ignorant!!

So if I live in a speaking –English country I can improve my English a lot though I write and talk well with British accent without even living in a speaking-English country. But my question to you since you live in Qatar, can you speak Arabic well?

Have you learned another language or tried!!!!!!!!!! This is what I am asking you since you live in an Arab country. Clever people can learn so fast!!!!!

By anonymous• 23 Nov 2011 05:34

You are absolutely correct Sarah, these gentlemen who are flaunting their English language skills, did not have to put slightest of effort to learn the language. They grew up exposed to the language in the laps of their native English speaking parents. Ask them to speak one proper sentence in Arabic and they will start looking wayward. You, on the other hand, were born to a Arabic speaking parent. No one would have spoken English around you until you where wise enough to decide yourself you are going to take up the language as your career. And voila, now you are able to converse with the native speakers. All credit to you. Even these 'gurus' agree that you have just a few minor flaws left in your language. Why not take it as a constructive criticism and iron them out. Even I, as a non-native speaker, feel that your language skills need a bit of face lift, beautification and finishing touches. More so because you are aspiring to teach children.

By sarah76• 22 Nov 2011 19:10
sarah76

You know better not waste time with 3 kids. Hope they know themselves. (lol)

To drovers, after all they are all English American, Australian and British, but different accents.

I asked you about Italian, Arabic or French or any other!!!!!! Really funny people

My comments made you laugh?

Your spelling and grammar made us all laugh, just like it will make the person interviewing you for the teacher position.

when you insist on the sanity of what you are saying with respect to what you are being told, This is CHALLENGING, not discussing.

By adey• 22 Nov 2011 16:32

"As for " is it so difficult", it is not considered incorrect. I asked a native speaker and replied it is possible to use it!"

Yes Sarah but only if you use it in the correct context.

eg "Why won't you tidy you bedroom, is it so difficult?"

"Why is it so difficult"

The examples I have cited above change the tenor or meaning of the question completely.

In the context of the question you asked in your OP the use of 'so' is incorrect - use of the word 'very' adds the emphasis, or just leave it as "is it difficult?".

It was the most minor of the mistakes in your OP but a mistake nonetheless.

:)

The people whom I asked are very intelligent and educated plus Natives from USA, Britain and even Australia. But they are so nice unlike here......

I am not challenging by the way, I am only discussing!!!!!!

I do not know from where did you get the notion that I am challenging!!!

Your comments made me laugh.(sorry)

Sarah, with your attitude, it will be hard for you to learn. You keep challenging people that correct you and you are too suborn to to accept your mistakes. I don't care what these people told you, they could be kids or ignorant people. I did not say it is sarcastic to write it. I said it implies sarcasm or talking slank. Not only your spelling and grammar need improvement but also your comprehension skills as well. The more you write the more mistakes you are making, which makes it impossible that you will get hired as a teacher.

Also, If I were you, I would not waste my energy on challenging Americans to learn other languages. You chose this career and it is your minimum requirement to write and speak properly.

By clownfish• 22 Nov 2011 13:56

i like this post. instead of answering her question. we focus on the grammar. Is there a rule in this forum that we should write in correct grammar? If the answer is yes, then what the hell, the admin should check all other post.

By sarah76• 22 Nov 2011 11:16

Then why when I put it in the English forum of native speakers, they did not tell me it is sarcastic. This is their comment:-

"The question "Is it so difficult?" is possible if "so difficult" refers to something already referred to.

"Is it very difficult?" does not require any antecedent."

If you are an Expert in English, you can tell me what's wrong about it. To my knowledge at least we are learning other languges unlike some of you who are ingnorant and knows only one language.

Sorry for saying that but this is what I have noticed!

I have a friend who is learning English, and her teacher is an American but sometimes he teaches them wrong because he does not have a BA in his language.

But it is not his fault, here in the Arab world when they see someone who is an American or a British, they hire them at once without looking at their certificates.

Ignorant people whenever we go!

For us if we want to teach Arabic, we should have a BA in it!

By anonymous• 22 Nov 2011 05:03

yes this is very bad English ..sorry.

But I am always trying to improve my English! I like keep asking questions when someone corrects my English!

By anonymous• 22 Nov 2011 03:39

It just sounds better. When you talk to someone, saying is it so difficult is still correct. But when you write, it just sounds slank if not sarcastic.

to emphasize on the difficulty, it is best to use "very" or "too"...

By sarah76• 22 Nov 2011 02:55
sarah76

I am here to discuss. But I have noticed that all of you focus on MA. When I said I hold MA, it does not mean I am professional. But I am always trying to improve my English! I like keep asking questions when someone corrects my English! Is it something strange to you! I would like to know why "very" instead of "so", that's all and my question to adey!

As I mentioned earlier I asked somewhere and they replied to me that "so" is correct.

Really strange thing here!!!

First thanks for your advice. But I have a comment. My degree is not generic as you stated. I am specialised in English literature which measn (British ) as there is a degree in linguistics also.

Besides, I have four years experince. I think teaching does not need an experince. It needs talent and how you communicate with the students.

Qatar is not a happy hunting ground for fresh pass outs even with big degrees until you have someone to lead you to a chair, unquestioned. You need to know which field do you want to take up as your day job with a degree as generic as MA in English, and at least have a couple of years of relevant experience. Nationality, I think, is not a problem in your case.
