Advice on a complicated situation regarding driving license?
Hi QLers,
I was based in Qatar till few months back and recently I joined a firm in Dubai. For a long project work, I will be travelling to Qatar, atleast for the next 6-8 months. I have not taken a license in Dubai yet because it is a tedious task and did not have time for it. And I don't think I will have that time in the near future due to work. Currently I hold a Qatari Driving License (valid till 2015) and an Indian Driving License. Currently, I am in Qatar and will be here for two months. But I do not have a Qatari RP, of course (its UAE RP now). Obviously, I am not allowed to use the Qatari license...I guess. So is there any other way to go about this so that I can pick up a car on rent and commute. Here, commutation is difficult without private transport.
Can I get an International Driving License here based on my Qatar Driving License? Or is there a provision where I can get a temporary one from the traffic department?
Appreciate your advise and help on the above query.
Regards,
Best advise is to get a UAE drivers license no matter how hard.
Thank you for the inputs, I will check with the rent a car companies.
Well spotted marie; it may have to be India then..
Marie is right, check with some rent a car companies.
vivme, he can't take an international driving license in UAE as he doesnt have a UAE driving license.
why dont you inquire directly with rent-a-car companies if they allow allow your Qatar driving license?
Vivme, Thank you for your feedback.
Well...I am here on a visa on arrival (one that is valid for one month and can be extended for two months). So I guess I will have to wait till I go back to UAE next time to get the international driving license.
As far as I know, if you are on a visit visa, you can drive on an international license. You can get an international license in the UAE based on either one of your licenses.
Wait for other answers though, just to be sure.
