Qatar Locals - Driving in Doha
A white landcruiser driven by a local young male Qatari was zigzagging on Al Waab Street direction Villagio. The car in front of him driven by Asians was obviously hindering him. The Qatari continued the pursue his prey by driving less than 1 meter behind at high speed flashing high beams, then passed him on the right and then left again forcing the car behind the brake to teach him a lesson. Woouw, what a guy, you did it. The local felt supreme in his white car. At the Al Bustan intersection, he wanted to turn left but the light turned red just 200 meters in front of him. He had to admit defeat, I could see the anger in his eyes as I happened to be next to him at the red light. For sure, he would have turned left but luckily there are cameras at this intersection.
Sounds familiar ?
It will be a matter of time, but I am sure his car will be one of those smashed ones that we can witness along the streets of Doha when driving to work on Sunday morning.
What an idiot.
It could be anyone, not only Qataris drives reckless ,anyone could and anyone could wear THOOB & AQAAL but they could be expat they too drive to show their foolishness driving skills . May Allah Almighty keep all of them safe and everyone. :)
the short time that I've been here I've noticed that local drivers are very considerate when it comes to women driving they usually let you pass and even smile. it's the crazy Indian drivers that won't let you pass even if their life depended on it. Indian drivers are wayyyyyyyyyy worst.. sorry but they are insane, they will hit anyone in their way and simply don't give a damn
indian drviers /... qatari drivers ..for all i know .. if u could somehow could guess their religion as well .. it would be" chirstian drivers aare really bad ". "ohh rr the muslims drivers are rash ".. Why do you guys use this nationality tagging . It can be a Iranian , A Srilankan Or any one .Avoid racial profiling
And DohaChap Chill boy
"Indian drivers are the worst everywhere!" Hahah ..
ahahahaha.. i know..... funny thing.. some think and drive like locals..
even if its obious that he is a personal driver lol...
Qataris and Emiratis drive the same way. When I was in UAE, I used to ignore the locals when they were flashing high beam on me and move slower so they will get annoyed more. Once they get irritated and overtook me, I will open my window and give them a big smile. What else they can do other than leave me?
we should not compare ladies to men..
rather they should gain respect coz they have the courage and guts to drive knowing risk ahead by to many uneducated and undisciplined drivers around..
in my opinion. And with all my respect to the ladies.
Ladies are the worst drivers, some of them are quite good but most naah.
who agrees?
Indian drivers are the worst everywhere!
can't blame Indian drivers. most of the drivers are directed by the ladies and kids sitting behind them. It is their duty to drop them as early as possible. So they never care others on the road.
Blaming locals for bad driving...obviously you havent been on the roads much, the Indians are the worst on the road...no respect for other and they dont know how to drive..
you know its tabooo to talk about the up coming National Day Celeberations... :) My god how many were banned or had warning 2 years back,, my god dont talk them worlds,,,,
The young kids who seem to always do stupid tricks and stunts like drag racing or skidding down the middle of the road are the worst. My daughters and I almost got hit by a teenager driving down the wrong lane at about 60kph in Hyatt plaza parking lot. We were barely a few feet from getting hit. And you know that he would have never stopped if he hit us... It still freaks me out just thinking about it.
Also, The Indian drivers who think they own the road because they are driving an Escalade. We know that car isn't yours- we know you are just a driver, why pretend you are better than anybody else?
Before someone blame the locals,I would like to highlight that some Nepali drivers are much worse and some indians also .
they are almost exclusively unskilled ones, with no qualification or skill level.
I am not driving but i noticed that when ever we cross the road locals always give us time to cross while indian would even beep us. You might experience too.....
we should follow saudi's lead....women are to blame.
Guys he must be practicing for the up coming National Day Celeberations... :)
driving experience: From camels to mercedes (they missed the bicyle stage)i help one lady on black robe i cant even see her face how old is she. her car battery gets flat and i drove my car near her and wanted to jump start i ask her to open the boot of her car. she told me she doesnt know where. so i tried to look and finally i found it ang manage to open and when we're done, she wanted to drive away and her car could'nt run straight, again, i told her to put her hand break off. again, she dont know where is it. arrggghhhh....
I have noticed that youngsters are crazier then the other lot.
Also the big 4x4's don't bother and see if anyone else is on the road or not. They just keep pushing in. Don't know when they will learn.
i liked the option....ambulance with "patient"...lol
I read in the paper the other day that there are only 86 cameras installed in Qatar. Surprisingky, the death toll decrased during the period 2003 to 2007, still it is 4 times as high as the countries that score best (f.e. UK, Scandinavian countries, Finland, etc). So a long way to go.
I can only hope:
1) that all (new) major roads that are being build in Doha will be equipped with digital (remote controlled) speeding cameras. In addition, speeding cameras should take the picture from the front so they can monitor that (everybody) in the car puts on the seatbelt.
2) that we will have much more (anonymous) police cars on the roads.
3) why not link the fine to your basic salary ?
While there is no denial that many locals do drive aggressively, most ( if not all) knows how to deal with a flat tyre & Would even assist others
If you’ll make up a story, at least make it believable
OMG! The recklessness and stupidity of these camel riders is totally unbelievable!
For all my life, I have never been so close to death so many times till I came to this country. When will the locals learn to drive on the fookin road itself and not on pavements that's been designated to the pedestrians?
The fact that driving a focking land cruiser on the sidewalks just cuz there is a bit of traffic jam on the road is just epic of what i would deem desert overheated brain disorder!
I mean really ppl's, can anyone of you tell me, what the hell is wrong with these ppl? I was almost hit by a moron driving a land cruiser and I wasn't even in my car, I was foockin standing on the pavement when this moron decided to drive his car on the pavement.
Why in this country jeopardizing the life of pedestrians is accepted as normal driving behavior?
I think they should go back on camels and leave us to do the driving.
to be honest with you, the behaviour varies individually, i have seen many local Qatris who even helped the old people crossing the road and giving lifts to them.
Depends on your good deads and soul only.
Why only qatar locals? Even expats drive that way these days.
Moreover many get some thrill out of blocking the nuts flashing their headlights at them.
what is funny is when i see a local with a flat he waits to have somebody come change it for him, how many times have i seen this on the road, the local in the aircon and the dark boy changing the flat......... helooooo and one stopped to give you assistance what did he do give you a indian drivers number to call to come and change it
Funny locals might be very courteous with helping change a tyre, Why can't they extend those good habits when they get behind the wheel?
i thot they would never be understanding....... ur lucky u dint have to pay the full amount..... atleast, by ur presence of mind, u got saved from that idiot who was in a hurry to the hosp.
yeah we should be careful.. many times i was force of over speeding to change lanes to give way with them..
Good subject to talk about!
i've bought a 4X4 car just to avoid such idiots!!!!
In the beginning they didn't believe me, then when I asked to see the video, they told me well done, I even freaked out at the scene! He would have made me pass the red light anyways had he bumped into me :)
I have to say the policemen were quite understanding, still I paid 500 QAR for this idiot's mistake :)
b careful while driving around
good for you tonny..
I had to pass a red light once so that the guy behind me doesn't hit me he was going 100km/h while the light was blinking orange and when I started to slow down he nearly took me with him. The mooroor guys were understanding though and i ended up paying 500 QAR instead of 6000
Before someone blame the locals, I would like to highlight that most non-GCC arabs drive totally crazy, both men and women alike. Mostly locals guys drive properly except for a few who are in a hurry. Especially in the morning, in front of the Exhibition Centre you can notice many 'smart' guys driving on the parking lane and trying to poke into the traffic.
How you know he was Qatari. Others wear thobes and plenty drive white LC. More racism and bias.
its a pity that if they got a big car their brain shrink. i got a small car. but i got a baby thing at the back... that means back off i have someone to be handled with care. shame on you!
that's why i always put in mind that if a local is behind me ill just give way and consider it as an ambulance with patient..
I lucky i have big car 4x4, so when they do that to me i dont worry so bad like when i had a small car.. now i take a photo of their car when they do this from my mobile.. that stops them as you have prove, as there word is alwasy better then your world,. if we could only be allowed to carry a base ball bat with us in our cars,, how good would life be>>>>>>>.
