LAPTOP
My Laptop - nearing 4 years old- is having a problem. It goes off while initial booting and/or some times a while after successful booting. I thought this may be due to a defective battery and tried by removing the batterry and charging the laptop directly, which was successful a couple of times. But from the second day onwards I noticed the probelm is still in persistence. If I take to the service centre for repair, they will not check in detail and simply conclude " motherboard failure- will cost you 1600QAR"!!.I don'wanna do that... Please advice if any solution for this.
Thankz..
Laptop trays can make using the laptop more convenient. Portable laptop trays are designed to make working or playing with your laptop computer from bed a safer and more comfortable experience. They are tough, heat-resistant and large enough so you can use a mouse - exactly what serious laptop users need. Our Lap Trays are very useful for a variety of purposes and ideally suited to those who like to eat, work, craft or read from the comfort of an arm char or sofa.
Laptop Trays
i agree with Muibien. this is the right way to use a laptop and you will protect your battery from over charging.
I disagree with you Green... it will work. What i do is i attached the laptop directly to its adapter and plug it to a volt regulator (to protect from power surge/fluctuations), turn it on without its battery... in this way i protect the battery from over charging and prolong its life span. That is when i'm at home. when on the go of course i use the battery...

S-hanker better try to reformat your computer, if problem persist better purchase new laptop...
this is overheating problem just check. when you on your laptop fan is working or not if not then dont use at all just go to any good computer service shop and change the fan. or maybe low rpm because of dust.
.................
It is Problem with BATTERY....
a LAPTOP IS not designed to work without battery even if
plugged in, since charging current working current.
What happens is due to bad battery backup there is no proper shutdown and start up file gets corrupted. Now ithout a fully charged battery it would never start up.
.................
What to do is off the system and charge battery until charge shows complete. Startup system with battery and power plugged in. Never disconnect power or replace battery.
You can try a laptop ccoler, to support the malfunctioning built in fan in your laptop. I had similar issues but not that worse but when I got a cooler, it never happend again even 24 hours opened.. If it still shut downs definitely buy a new one!
few tips:
1. Operate the laptop in a ventilated environment i.e., do not keep it on your lap or on a bed/matrress. Keep it on a table and also make sure there is nothing blocking the fan outlet.
2. in addition to 1., you may also use a laptop tray which has its own fan (available at jarir, carrefour etc)
3. Motherboard replacement is definately expensive and it makes more sense to buy a new laptop. However, the chipset on the motherboard can be repaired. the repair machine looks something like this (http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/motherboard-chip-repairing-machine.html). Not sure if it is available in Doha so you may have to find a repair shop back in your country or in Dubai. if you find a chipset repair shop in Doha, let me know as well :)My laptop has the same problem
Consider if your laptop atleast 1.5 or 2 years old, has the battery gone through 500+ recharges. Search vendor forums e.g., toshiba forum and look for such information, for some models it is specified e.g., after 500 recharges battery life is over etc.... It's all subjective, you have to search for the relevant sutff.
1600!! better buy a new one..
I agree with fan comment - had a similar issue.
Found video on YouTube showing how to replace the fan myself.

Why don't you try to re-format the laptop, else if the real cost of the motherboard is 1600 better to purchase new one.
probably the vent of the processor heatsink is dirty. try cleaning the vent.
Its time to buy new instead of bringing to computer shop, even you will change the MB it will not live longer.
I would hazard to guess that the CPU/system fan may not be working properly. Initially, when you boot the laptop, you should be able to hear a soft whirring noise to let you know the fan is working. If not, the laptop automatically shuts down to prevent overheating of the CPU.
For that amount, better buy a new one...not advisable to do any majot repair, it's not worth it. Save your all data on different harddisk or rip it.
QR1600 for motherboard replacement??? it's upfront daylight robbery, my friend, hehe,.. better buy a new unit.. there are lot of price-friendly units in the market now.
one of my friends had a similar experience with them....
How you know they will charge 1600?
