An article in The Peninsula on corporal punishment in Qatar schools interviewd prominent psychologist Dr Moza Al Malki. Here is one of her pearls of wisdom:

'Al Malki said that studies suggest that if you put two glasses full of water before you and to one you say loudly and repeatedly ‘I love you’ its color becomes vibrant and this can be observed using a microscope.

While to the other glass of water you say ‘I hate you’ repeatedly and its color changes too but it becomes pale. The experiment shows that if one shows one’s love even to a thing like water it has an instant and positive impact on it.'

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She also says:

“I ask teachers to kiss and embrace children......"

And these people advise the government?

It rings a vague bell.

An old experiment about trying to weigh the 'soul'

Can't remember now the explanation as to why is was all a load of bunk.

I looked up 'The Intention experiment" - I must say, you do like your pseudoscience lol ;)

Described by one scientist as "tosh"

Quantum theory is fascinating and there is so much more to discover but Lynne McTaggart, who again is not a scientist, takes a bit of knowledge and adds mystical guesswork to it.

I will find you a couple of vids on Quantum mechanics...hold on.

Another question to you Adey..i have read about an experiment, where dyeing man (with his consent, as he was a scientist himself) was placed in an air, water and anything else tight container. No substance we know of could get in or out. The weight he had was reduced, ( the whole container was weighed with him in it)significantly, as far as I remember, after he had passed away? Why and how?

What's your take on this?

I am going to be heartless and am going for the WIN!!!So we can concur that there is NO published scientific evidence that states that talking to water, or concentrating very hard on it, changes it's colour, molecular structure or any other Woo effects? We only believe that some things are unknown to science?.....but this is not one of them!Bring your evidence and fight like a man(woman) if you don't accept your submission!!! :P

Adey, lol, love you too! :)

Here is the thing, people were laughed at and prosecuted a few hundred years ago for saying the earth is round etc.

Sure, this research and many other subjects relating to it are in their infancy, no question, and there are not any results( that I know of) that are accepted by the mainstream scientific community, so far. All I can say is, wait and see.

Maybe one day there will be conclusive results, maybe not.

One thing I DO believe though, there is a lot more than meets the (scientific) eye. And I also think the mainstream scientific community is aware of this.

I'd like to recommend a book to you " The intention experiment" by Lynne McTaggart

It's available on Kindle, if you have one .

I do love you, but really.......the 'Society for Scientific Exploration(SSE)'!?!

David Icke's followers really love these guys:

http://forum.davidicke.com/archive/index.php/t-87289.html

The pdf you linked to was inconclusive and never followed up by anyone as far as I can tell.

"Journal of Scientific Exploration, was established to provide a scientific forum for ufology, parapsychology and cryptozoology......(and) among other things, consciousness physics, astrology"

"The journal has published articles implying that certain topics, like paranormal activities, dowsing and reincarnation, are true and have been verified scientifically. The articles try to convince other scientists that further research into those topics is warranted, and they are often written by scientists with impressive academic credentials, but the mainstream scientific community has deliberately ignored all of them."

"Pretty much anything that might have shown up on The X-Files or in the National Enquirer shows up here first"

"According to experimental psychologist Roger D. Nelson, head of the Global Consciousness Project, the SSE aims to "give everyone a respectful hearing. If we think a speaker is doing bad science, we consider it our duty to criticize it. We get our share of lunatics, but they don't hang around long."

"it's also not surprising that that same Henry Bauer(director of SSE) has published papers arguing that scientists have ignored powerful evidence that the Loch Ness Monster is real."

As I said, if someone says something mythical or fascinating enough that appeals to the spirituality or mystique of someone's belief, then to hell with the actual evidence for those people.

In science if you make a claim, the burden of proof is upon you to produce evidence to support that claim, and make it able to be tested in any lab across the world under the same conditions and get the same outcome.

I have seen unicorns in books I cannot remember the name of too. So they must surely exist as well...

Water is a tiny V-shaped molecule with the molecular formula H2O.

Phase changes or State changes do not change the underlying chemical/molecular structure of a compound.

So, Ice, Water, and Steam (Water vapor) all have the same chemical/molecular structure.

Niether colour or molecular structure will change by being hostile to it....or....showing it some luvvvv

It's only her whole "water" theory that I found unconvincing. But as far as her hugging and showing kids affection advice goes, I must say this is not just an Arab tradition but an Islamic tradition as well. In fact there are many narrations where our Prophet embraced his grandchildren and advised people to show love and kindness to their children as well. However sadly today, in a world where even so called religious people have turned out perverted monsters it's not a good idea to encourage too much physical bonding between anyone except one's own children(and some people even don't practice this anymore).

Again I am aware that my daughter is hugged and kissed by her teachers and even principal and since I know of how its done, and how much better she fares in her school work when treated with such loving gestures, I am not against them here. Just to note my daughter does attend an Arab school and she's probably the only non Arab student there.

tell me where the source of this scientifically proven experiment is so that I can judge for myself....as a general google search draws a blank.

scientific evidence(proof) is testable, falsifiable, repeatable, peer reviewed and able to make accurate predictions. Dr. Masaru Emoto's 'work' is none of these things so it is not a matter of opinion .........it really is bs.

By adey• 14 Jan 2012 15:02

Dr. Masaru Emoto comes up as the only source for a 'talking to water and changing its molecular structure' search.

From wiki:

'Emoto's work is widely considered pseudoscience by professionals, and he is criticized for going directly to the public with misleading claims that violate basic physics, based on methods that fail to properly investigate the truth of the claims.

Physician Harriet A. Hall writes, about the ideas of Emoto, that "This watery fantasy is all very entertaining and imaginative, full of New Age feel-good platitudes, holistic oneness, consciousness raising, and warm fuzzies; but it's hard to see how anyone could mistake it for science."

Emoto freely acknowledges that he is not a scientist'

What scientific proof?

Taking your example, and this place, where children are probably punished in such a way, how are they supposed to understand when the love that should be coming from parents is provided by teachers instead. It's a case of misplaced affections and only adds to confusion.

Like I said, it's the choice of words and it's application in the culture.

By the way,not just you, but many of us here would be angry when we see any kind of abuse towards anybody's children.

Its not about me, or anyone else giving our approval here. God knows we have no right or authority but it still comes across as very senseless and funny to claim water changes colors as to how it is addressed by people. And she did state it is scientifically proven!Makes people wonder why locals need to be lied to in order to better themselves. Perhaps you have a point..maybe her real message is lost in translation here, but to the majority of us, non Qataris, it dose sound laughable and false to say the least. But again if this is truly not her actual words or what she means then may God forgive me for ridiculing her and increase her in success either ways..Aameen!

Dear Sal,

I understand what you mean by Indians' and their teacher student relationship, But dear friend a lot has changed in India from the times of "Matha Pitha Guru Deva"[Mother , Father, and teacher are god]....Why , even you, who formerly was a brother is now a neighbor!

Today with everything from milk to you-name-it being adulterated it is best to be cautious. That said I am completely with you on that"

She only means that teachers should have motherly affection"

Just that this affection needs lesser physical manifestations, rather dedication to the improvement of the student, a willingness to go that extra mile would be more acceptable.

Didn't we hear sometime back that the number of clinically depressed people are on the rise in Qatar? And with psychologist like this...Allahu Must3aan!

I didn't know water was a living thing with feelings either..and to think how many times I have downed em without caring how they feel!

Now on a serious note;I honestly have no issue with my daughter's class teachers and even principal(all females) showing her affection(in a manner I know is appropriate as I have witnessed them) and this is because I have taught her all she needs to know on what is right and what is wrong, what is appropriate and what is not. I have taught her of child abuse and how to tell signs. And I constantly quiz her on all the going-ons in her school life.We are very close and she knows she can tell me everything(though mind you I still don't overestimate/underestimate anyone here). Likewise I have met personally all her teachers and got to know them as well. I don't want to deny her affection as she is a child who responds to TLC far more than harshness, but I will not let my guard down either.I believe there is a line between what is right and wrong and as long as no boundaries are crossed children should be treated with kindness and affection though a degree of sternness is a required too. In all instances it's best to keep physical contact to a minimum and rely more on verbal methods.

But as the teacher you should be the role of discipline in that child's life, not hitting them, but you are also the first line of authority that child meets in life.

A parents discipline is muddled and blurred with the love they have; that should be the case, they are your family.

As a teacher, you should have a caring stance but ultimately a professional outlook on all the children. You are the first time the child is learning that not everyone in life will 'love' them like their parents, and that there are certain boundaries of conduct to be adhered to in the outside world.

It could in fact be weakening the bond with their family at a forumlative stage in life, because every adult in their world hugs them and seems to love them unconditionally; to them, how is there a difference?

A child's emotional development is vital, but that evolution in emotions is a parental influence; in the classroom you are the guiding light of education, and enlightening the child's knowledge.

The reward for the child from you is that they grasp key mental concepts and life skills. The reward should not be a 'hug'.

If I wrote a book saying that everytime I eat a sandwich, then something good happens to someone else, then that is exactly the same principle of the crappy 'Secret'.

What I love about people like this water-woman are that they make totally stupid and foolish claims and then, when they are questioned on proving it, come out with some 'oh, the answer is too big for a human mind to comprehend or be explained'....and everyone goes 'ooooohhhh......so powerful.....'.

She only means that teachers should have motherly affection. It is an eastern value that teachers are like parents not service providers. And they should be able to exercise the same rights and privileges. Why is deliberately trying to misunderstand what she said. I am especially surprised at Indians implying things about what she said. You have (or had) the same values in India; teachers were 'in the place of' parents. And uncles and aunts and even family friends kiss our children and no one frowns. In the West, obviously, you dont kiss someone else's kids because every incident there triggers drawing up of SOPs for appropriate conduct.
