Gene rockets down Doha sea front

DOHA: A crowd of 20,000 watched Marc Gene do a demonstration run in an F2008 on the Doha corniche on Saturday afternoon.
The event, organised by Shell in collaboration with the Qatar Motor Show, which gets under way for the second time on Monday, was a thrilling spectacle. Seeing a Formula 1 car rocket at over 300 km/h down a 3km course set up as a temporary venue along the Qatar capital’s sea front drew an enthusiastic response from the spectators, as did the pit stops, run by Scuderia Ferrari’s F1 Clienti department.

I went to the Corniche at 12:00 as per the advice given. at 3:20 they still were not started with this car and it was getting cold. This delay was unacceptable and many thousands of people who had been waiting for several hour left. Its too bad since I am sure it would have been fun to watch and there obviously a lot of preparation for the event. Unfortunately, the efforts were wasted as MANY people just gave up and went home.

I would have expected an F 2012, not the old model of 2008!
I don't think the article reflects the true picture of what happened in that event. It was very obvious that the event was very poorly organized. the spectators were booing instead of being enthusiastic, and so many people left before the event started. it was a waste of time for us, and a big waste of money and efforts for the organizers of this costly event. The big delay just turned us off even when the F1 car showed up
