An average of 17 Saudi Arabian residents die on the country’s roads each day, a report by the Kingdom’s General Directorate of Traffic has revealed. The news comes after the World Health Organization found Saudi Arabia to have the world’s highest number of deaths from road accidents, which now make up the country’s principal cause of death in adult males aged 16 to 36. First reported by the Saudi daily Arab News, the study found that 6,485 people had died and more than 36,000 were injured in over 485,000 traffic accidents during 2008 and 2011.

There are speed cameras in Saudi also. The only difference is that the fines are not as high..

just the other day, a young local drove a relatively new sedan flying over the sidewalks unto the plot filled with pile of debris... the car was a wreck!

later we found out he car jacked it parked from a local grocery and drove like there's no tomorrow.

no seatbelts at all, but he was saved by air bags...

this i tell you!

it's really fuck'n crazy down the road here in KSA.

jumping the red light is a common thing. swerving from left/middle most road lanes for a quick exit at the right is even common. 'em tires screeching to halt is another normal daily thing... the crushed vehicles litter the streets! and they really like american cars!

gives me shiver just to sit behind the steering wheel!

really fuck'n crazy!! and did i mention they're still sober from alcohol?!

Well if they gonna keep breeding like rats and no proper parental guidance that's exactly what they deserve.

When I had arrived here in Doha, there are many highspeed cameras for violators. Also the speed limit was being observed here unlike in Saudi.

Yep! Those who complain about Qatar's driving should try Saudi ..

Most of the deaths are due to high speed.

In Saudi Arabia, its the norm to violate the Traffic Regulations. On highways, you can drive 200 / 220 kmh. The safest way to drive is always in the middle and have a very large space in front and behind you. Because cars will be weaving to and from the fast to slow lane.

17 per day! that is huge, i think it is mostly due to over speed which i have seen when i went there and i saw how ppl drive like they are not going to stop

I've been to Saudi before and i've witnessed their driving habits. Most of the young saudi's used the busy street as their playing grounds for practicing drifting and doing high speed crazy maneuvers.
