Shoulder Pain during Sleep
Couple of days ago, i got up in the morning with severe pain in right shoulder joint going down to entire arm and extending upto neck.
Doctor said, it could a muscle pulled or injured or joint slipped from the shoulder due to sleeping on one side for entire night. He gave me some pain killers and a cream to massage. I used them for 04 days and still am not relieved. Its really hard to sleep at night now a days die to pain.
Can any body advise something from his/her experience as i heard , it is very common , particularly in women ...
How long it take to auto-heal ?
Thanks
The symptoms you are describing are typical of torticollis or "wry neck" which can occur due to poor sleep posture. The are normally self limiting and resolve over time; typically few days up to 1-2 weeks.
If the duration is longer, with repeated episodes along with sensation problems in the arms then it may indicate a disc problem in the neck and worth seeing a doctor.
Physiotherapy is quite effective in resolving torticollis by using probes and special strech exercise.

After applying Axe Oil, keep hot water bag in the affected area, don't sleep direct to A/C, cover the shoulder, avoid sleeping on that shoulder for a long time.
check if the a/c blower is directly on you while sleeping....If yes, change the direction
Just some relief ideas, they have acu-puncture at the inter-con and the Sheraton, done by a Chinese doctor and yes it works as I suffered with the same problem.
Give them a call.
yes avoid using pillow if cont.. pls go check ur uric acid as that too leads the pain in joints.
take care how you use this massage cream, the only effect for that should be the anti-inflammatory and not the massage effect, what I mean is that you should not make a hard deep massage for your shoulder, your inflammation might increase and your pain might increase.
Start with the ice/cold pack, (make sure you cover it with a towel) for a 12 min, twice per day.
do you feel any swarming in your hand or in your fingers? if you do you will need to go and see another doctor, and make an X-ray.
if you work in an office, make sure to adjust your chair in the best non painful position for your shoulder.
anyways, the best treatment will be to go and see your physiotherapist, if you don't know one, I can give you some free advices lol
It happened to me a few weeks ago. My doc sent me for rehabilitation and electrical stimulation worked for me. Don't know if u can get it done in Doha but anyways, try cold packs at least 3 times a day to calm inflammation and see if u can find exercises on the web. If not let me know and I will send u the exercises I do for it.
I agreed with picedia2k9, avoid using pillow while sleeping.
use tiger balm the strongest of all and when u put the balm cover that area and dont let air touch that area so that balm could show its effect
avoid using pillow for a couple of days on sleep... it will become ok.
try some hot oil massage for few days to tat pain area and avoid sleeping for long on one side...
