Pilot makes emergency landing after finding snake in cockpit
A pilot in Australia's Northern Territory was forced to turn his plane around after a snake popped out from behind his dashboard and crawled down his leg.
In a freakish in-flight incident immediately likened to the cult Samuel L Jackson 2006 film Snakes on a Plane, the pilot, Braden Blennerhassett, made a mayday call declaring: “We've got a snake on board.”
"As the plane was landing, the snake was crawling down my leg, which was frightening," he later told Channel Nine.
The snake, which was reportedly chasing a tree frog that had stowed away under the front passenger seat, has still not been found and ground crew have been trying to lure it out with a mouse.
Mr Blennerhassett, a charter pilot, was flying to a rural township yesterday to drop off cargo when the snake’s head poked out of the control panel in front of him. His initial calls to his air company - which were made difficult by the snake's appearance on the transmit button - initially drew a sceptical response until he repeatedly requested a snake handler be ready when he landed.
"I've seen it on a movie once, but never in an airplane," he told ABC
