Top Ten Most Powerful Countries

BlueBull
By BlueBull

Which country on the planet has the most powerful armed forces? It's not a matter of numbers, although that's a major factor. It's more a matter of other things that are not often discussed.

By size (number of troops), the top ten nations looks like this;

China
United States
India
Korea, North
Russia
Korea, South
Pakistan
Israel
Turkey
Iran

But anyone who has studied military history knows that the number of troops is a misleading measure. There are several factors that make the troops of one army more effective than others. The most obvious modifying factor is weapons and equipment (quantity and quality). Closely related to this are the “combat support” elements. The most important of these are logistics (being able to move troops, and their supplies, long distances and in a timely manner) and maintenance (keeping things in repair and running under all conditions.) Then there are the intangibles (like leadership, training and the most intangible item of all; military tradition.) Apply all of those to the raw number of troops and you get different number. This number is called "combat power."

Top Ten By Combat Power

United States
China
Israel
India
Russia
Korea, South
Korea, North
United Kingdom
Turkey
Pakistan

The most unusual entry here is Israel. But this is because Israel is one of the few nations to have a reserve army that can be mobilized for action more quickly than most countries can get their active duties into shape for combat. The mobilized Israeli armed forces number over half a million troops. In addition, the Israelis have world class equipment and weapons, as well as exceptional intangibles. The downsize of this is that mobilizing its armed forces also cripples the Israeli economy. Under these conditions, Israel must conduct a war that ends within a few months. After that, supplying the armed forces becomes difficult and actual combat power begins to decline.

Where are the Germans? Maybe they are being sneaky and hiding all their troops somewhere.... maybe they have a frozen Hitler they will bring out when the time is right for world domination

______________________________________________________

Ah...We (The United States of America) wont let Germany or Japan have a military. Remember that piece of paper they signed after WW2? Anyway the discussion is absurd. We spend more than the rest of the world combined on our military, of course we are the most powerful country in the world, the most powerful country in space, the most powerful country that ever was. We put a man on the moon and we can blow up the planet 8,000 times over.

The Bundeswehr is essentially a defence force. The Germans tend to stay clear of conflicts and would rather use money than might....

Big problem with Sun Tzu, in his days no such thing as unmanned drones, bunker busters and nukes. Yes North Korea has a large standing army but two nukes would take the lot out. The British Navy has one destroyer in the South Atlantic with enough fire power to not only take out of the Argentina airforce but in fact most of South Americas.

As for Israel they have a formidable military machine. Not only is the army and the millions of reservists well trained, they have advanced technology that the Iranians could only dream of. Yes they do not have enough manpower to control a country like Iran which is not their aim, but they have enough to do a hell of a lot of damage. If Israel was so crap the Arabs countries would try to get rid of them. Oh wait, they tried that a few times and failed miserably.....

So obviously when it comes to war fare, you know very little.

In the real war ground, Technology comes 3rd.

Anybody have ever read the book "Art of war" written by an great chinese ? Its known as the worlds best book about the millitery tactics.

Worlds most dangerous armies are

01. CHINA

02. NORTH KOREA

03. VIETNAM

----------------------------------

All other countries like

USA, ISRAEL, RUSSIA, SOUTH KOREA,INDIA, PAKISTAN ....or whatever the country, They all have "WESTERN WAR STYLE"

which is much behind when it takes to action in the real war ground.

You are talking nonsons about israel. So why they are pulling america to attack iran ? Becouse they probably knows if they start it, it will be the end of the zionist land.

What happend to the US in vientam ?

This is what happens to america and israel in the real war ground(becouse israel is still buying most weapons from US)

China is way behind USA and Israel for technology. It is just commissioning its first aircraft carrier whereas USA has about 7.

The airforce and missile technology of the USA is also superior..

reallly pakistan??? they are nowhere the top 25 list!

By BlueBull• 29 Apr 2012 11:07

Moza - But thats not what we are discussing here. Isn't it? Military might of any country is independent of it's internal dynamics. I think it has more to do with the resolcve to be capable militarily and offset the threat posed by the enemies.

Pakistan has done a great job of countering the threat it perceives from neighbouring India whith whom it has fought three bloody wars. In the face of the severe problems Pakistan is facing,it's military achievement is worth an applause IMO.

By anonymous• 29 Apr 2012 10:41

Let's face it Pakistan doesn't really have a coherent military. They can't deal with the problems inside Pakistan let alone outside it.

BlueBull : That's crackin funny! Dude if Hezbollah was trained and armed by Iran, A no-body in your top most powerful armies list. Israel is and has always been armed to the teeth by counties all of whom are on your top 10 most powerful countries list. (:

MN - Not sure if it got defeated but one this is for sure - Hezbollah is no small 'out-lawed junta group' :0 It was formed and armed and trained by Iran.

BB. The number 3 most powerful military in the whole world got defeated by Ha small out-lawed junta group (Hezbollah) in 2005 and again by the democratically/legally voted and elected Hamas govt in the Gaza strip in 2009.

MM - US is still technologically far superior. So much so that the China is known to have literally 'purchased' debris of US war equipment wreckages from the Gulf war and Afghanistan war to learn the tricks of the trade ;)

There's still a long way to go for other countries to syurpass US's Military might.

By Miss Mimi• 29 Apr 2012 09:21
Miss Mimi

I'm surprised China is still not number 1. They have almost all of the same technology as the US AND they have an army larger than the entire population of the US. They could literally "drown" the US in troops if they wanted to.

MN - Whereever is their source of funding, training etc does not discount the facts.

Pffff! Spits out his morning force!!!!

OK OK! I do in fact agree that the Israeli army they are well trained and everything but if we discount all the monetary, military, and logistic aid they are generously and abundantly getting out of the average and hardworking middle class Americans tax payer moneys . The Israeli army it’s just too firkin small to attack/ defend anyone other than the Arab states again none of which I can call potential military threat, well expect for Iran and Egypt and they aren’t even in the top 20) It’s just not fair! The United Kingdom, France and Turkey for example are much larger and stronger then Israel

I think Israel should be 9 or 10.

By BlueBull• 29 Apr 2012 08:42

Moza - Pakistan is a mighty nation militarily. Infact it has the maximum defence expenditure to the GDP ratio.
