if they will base it on the current standard. Precisely it needs improvements including retro-fittings. But it can be done while the mall is open. They just need some mitigation plan while doing the adjustments or improvements.
i'm not sure if it's true, but i heard that the inspections revealed that city center's safety situation is actually worse than it seemed. hence the extension of the closure.
Yeah I can see the entrance to the car park from my apartment (ASAS Towers) so was wondering as I heard everyone in work saying it was still closed. Not that I am desperate to go to a mall but I only get here Thursday evening so will need to do a biggish shop soon! As well as get myself a phone etc. Dont have a car yet so looks like I'll have to taxi it over to another mall. Wont be doing it on a weekend as I imagine it would be carnage in all the others!
nope. just came home from there, hoping that they are really closed for only 48 hours. the 48 hour sign was still there, but the guards said it will be open next week. some people say it will be open only after 20 days. so let's just say it will be closed for an indefinite period.
it looks open because the lights are on and there are people inside (probably shop employees). it looked so deceiving and gave me false hope. even the escalators are working.
Good that these people are doing something about safety in malls. City centre is always crowded with people with not many exits. With more sales season coming, it's going to be more crowded. If they pass the safety regulations at the 1st place, I doubt they will need to close for so long..
....i guess if one is sharing their apartment, they would need some alone time - in this heat the only other air cooled place would be....MALLS. Besides for 'em bachelors, it cools the eyes to check 'em chicks out.
I've seen this phenomenon around the gulf - Dubai, Bahrain, Muscat. Specially in Summer.
Isn't Landmark and Villagio managed by one management? I would think that their fire supression and alarm system would be maintained by the same contractor (if not installed by the same Co.). If i was Civil defense, i'd check the safety systems's of Landmark mall first. Its not going to help safety wise with everybody crowding one mall either.
Went to "the Mall" - Mrs.Panther wanted to check out the Mango sale. No issues parking. Me tried to check out the Hugo Boss sale and Radioshack (plug and play now). Both rubbish - those guys haven't even heard of Monster cables!!! sighhh. Back to Amazon to pick it up.
Tried to check out R Lobster last weekend - it was MaDNeSs - cdn't even get inside leave alone ask for a table and waiting time. Will check it out laters - lobsters ain't gonna run anywhere
The place is overwhelmed with customers...Most from the west know it's part of the deal, but here it seems waiting for a table is a new concept..
word of advice, if you plan to go there with four people or less, when you add your name to the list..ask for a booth..we were initially seated at a table..the chairs are hard wood..tough on the back side..

Correct

Is it open again yet?

I used to shop at MegaMart in the Centre, when I lived in Mansoura and worked on Salwa Road.
But now I live in Wakrah, so Airport's Shoprite and Barwa Village are my haunts.
I go to Hyatt Plaza when I am going to the QAWS farm in Muaither.
Less people, the better for me... and I never shop at weekends if I can help it:-)

Visiting malls is an "Activity" by itself!!!!!
Could possibly be more than a few days closed?

May i ask who are the MEP contractors for the Villaggio mall?
Shouldn't they also be held responsible?
carrots...where and what is "fashion Asia " mall? Never heard of it or seen it.
Doha-Infidel its there in today's Gulf-times
i have visited fashion asia mall in old airport ,it was nice arrangement and they have started many events ,good and safe for families .
at The Center. Less people there.
I am not a shopper.... Before the Villagio disaster, I hadn't been in there in about 5 months.
I haven't been to City Centre in about a year....
Last time at Landmark, maybe 1.5years ago.
Hyatt's Giant Stores, Barwa Village and Shoprite on Airport Road are my salvation:-)
Guess a place that big can't be done in a few hours....
If one is alone, malls are a great option to find people of oppsoite sex and so the concept of 'time pass' or going to a mall not to buy anything!
You and me both..don't get that concept myself!
So, people DO go to Malls for "time pass" instead of buying what they need?
That's a concept I don't get...if I go to a mall I go there because I need/want to buy something....
DH...appreciated! Will keep this all in mind.
Red Lobster...overall it was very good..
The place is overwhelmed with customers...Most from the west know it's part of the deal, but here it seems waiting for a table is a new concept..
word of advice, if you plan to go there with four people or less, when you add your name to the list..ask for a booth..we were initially seated at a table..the chairs are hard wood..tough on the back side..
and better safe than sorry. But gotta agree it could have been planned better. Was at Landmark myself last night and it was quite a crowd!
Oh and @ Doha infidel:How was the food at Red Lobster? Worth a try?
Would really like to see the records of previous inspections...just for personal amusement..
better late than never, i suppose..
Thanks for the info.
I am so pleased to see affirmative action taking place. This is what we were all crying out for. Well done Qatar!
QDC will be busting....
Heck even WOQOD stations are teeming with people.
A good move..
With the city center mall closed, we decided to just swing by Red Lobster, to get the location down, and parking availability.
Anyway,
I ended up passing by The Center Mall...it was completely overwhelmed with traffic..
I am thinking all the "Mini Malls" will be packed with people today..
As I ended up passing by Red Lobster..I spied a parking spot..so what the heck, might as well stop in...
Table for 2, only 20 minute wait..not bad..
The Host was informing individuals of a 45 to 60 minute wait...
Excellent to do a safety check.
BUT the lack of communication and the timing is a joke.
boer very true.. last evening Landmark was looking like one.
there can still be a compromised action.
Now they learned...they have done it along time ago..
....shut a mall down over the busiest period!! Sure as hell not going anywhere near Landmark today - it will be a war zone.
I was just surprised they started the inspection on Friday..
good move, but surprised..
Good move. Safety first ...
there is proverb, " drilling the bore wall after fire catches to home!!!!!!!!!".
civil defense should ride all the malls & hotels to check the Safety and Fire inspection & smoke extraction systems.
lot of malls and hotels here not having proper Safety systems.
