Hi everyone, I've moved to Doha with my husband a few months ago. We're from Toronto, Canada. I'm looking for female friends who has common interests. I enjoy cooking, shopping, hanging out with friends...Send me a message if you are also looking for new friends:)

And you are putting words into my mouth :)

I didn't compare the people...I am comparing job qualifications.

No one is better than anyone. Its what you do with your life that matters.

And if I am assuming that you do not respect people, and you do, then I apologize. But if you do base your respect on the passport of people, then my assumption is in its place :P

You assume a lot about me.

If the Lebanese and Syrians are so much better qualified why have their countries been such a mess? Surely you should be showing the west how it should be done.

Nope...

Just to clarify things...The ones you are referring to hold the Canadian passport...that's why they were rescued.

The census in Lebanon lists around 4million Lebanese...But figures state more than 12 million who are all around the world with other citizenship.

mozaismyhero:

You wish to "Not respect them" for their actions, that is up to you.

But beleive me, if you "treat" them with respect, the whole thing would be different.

Plus, let me ask you this....

Who started the treat of treating westerners better, in terms of salries and beneftis ONLY because they are westerners and not for their qualifications? You guys did.

I have seen sooo many Brits/Americans/Canadians with half the qualifications of Leb's and Syrians, get way more.

Why is that?

Are you one of the 15000 Canadians rescued in 2006 from Lebanon ?

By anonymous• 1 Jul 2012 19:07

No they do not deserve my respect just because they conned their way to a Canadian passport. It's a two way street. If the Canadians are willing to be hosiptable are give nationality, then they should give something back to Canadian society. Being a landed immigrant and running back to the middle east so you can avoid tax is not a responsible citizen.

If it wasn't for our rotten "middle eastern" governments, we wouldn't have gone to Canada or any other western nation. I am proud to be Lebanese...But I am also proud and privileged to hold the Canadian passport, and to have lived there for 7 years.

Those you refer to, only say they are Canadian because people in the gulf area simply view them as slave workers...But when they have that western document, they get a little bit of the respect they truly deserve.

So you see, these people deserve your respect, regardless of their passport. And if everyone treated them with respect, they wouldn't resort to having to say "I am Canadian."

Let me explain. My comments were directed at those that obtain Canadian passports for convienence sake and have no intention of putting anything back in Canadian society by either living there or paying taxes.

I did not say anything about being a true Canadian.

This is in reply to mozaismyhero's comment.

Plz define your "born in Canada" pre-req for being a "true Canadian"!

So if a "middle easterner" was born in Canada as a first generation Canadian, they are authentically Canadian?

Or do they need to have their parents born in Canada to be a "true Canadian"?

Or do you have to be "X-Generation" Canadian to be a "true" Canadian?

I think you need to treat people with respect, regardless of their "origin"....Cuz if we think about it, Only Aborigines are "True Canadians". Everyone else just "landed"!

If you are interested in cooking I can recommend the cooking classes at the Ritz Carleton over the next few weeks. Check their facebook page - it may look pricey but you definitely get what you pay for.

Hi

I'm English, ive been here for 4 weeks now......I have not had any external ( outside of qatar living ) conversation or company from my fellow westerners!

The westerners here are very unfriendly! they dont even smile at you when shopping in the supermarket :-/

I have noticed:

They either think themselves better than every1 else

dont have time

look annoyed

or are just lacking social skills!

I have smiled ( beaming ) on 7 yes 7 occasions to a fellow westerner & it was not reciprocated. In fact in the souk, i once told an English lady that the guy was trying to rip her off & would she like me to help her haggle ( i speak arabic fluently ) she actually bare face stared & me & didnt even have the dignity to respond in any way..........my daughters were disgusted with her....as a fellow female Brit :-( so now i limit my English chats to this site, where all the westerners seem able to communicate, politely, friendly & helpful..........hope u have better luck than me socialising :-D
