Working for Government

Hello everyone,

I have been offered a Grade 1 position at one of the Ministries in Qatar as IT Audit Expert. They offered me a total package of 31,000 QR and 5,000 QR housing allowances. Medical insurance is provided for all family members at their specified medical complex/units.

Annual tickets (Jordan) for all family members with 40 days annual leave provided.

Zero interest car loan (45K QR) is provided after one year.

No schooling. Hence, I have 2 kids in SABIS int.

Either I take the 5k p/m housing in cash, or wait for full furnished government housings. I will be entitled for a furniture grant of 3k QR if unfurnished which is depreciated after 3 years, but paid back if resigned within the first 3 years.

I am currently living in Dubai, work is going fine but a change is diffidently needed.

It will be highly appreciated if you could advice me about the job offer if it is sufficient to have a descent life with 5K QR p/m savings?, and shall I take the housing allowance in cash or wait for government housing, if so, how is it like?

Thanks,

If you are getting the same package in Dubai then it is of new use moving to Qatar. I don't think you will be able to find a good new accommodation at 5k and it will be better to go for the furnished house from them. Schooling is expensive here. 45k car loan without interest is not so bad as you can get another loan from the bank with interest to buy a bigger car if needed. Still not a bad offer from the Government and I think there will not be much room for negotiation.

salary is ok,

but housing allowance is not fair ,

schooling is expensive here.

To get an executive 2 bedroom furnished flat will cost around 6k -8k per month.

for 3k u will get one refrigerator & two burner cooker.

With 45k you might get kia Rio, nissan tida(you won't get full option tida) .......,

If you are getting the same package there in Dubai, then think before you resign from the current job at Dubai

negotiate with your employer in QATAR.
