Dear QL users
i have been a victim of 1 of real estate company in qatar(advertised in local papers).so i need your help regarding the law.i have recently rented a house in doha through a real estate company ad in gulf times.as i m not interested to harm any 1's personal interest i would not mention the name.actually this company owned by a non-local but in the name of a qatari owner.the thing is they are doing a profit sharing of 50-50 with the local.they made me do an agreement of 1 year, took the agent money that is half of 1st month rent.also they are taking 3 times the rent of what people are paying in this building(evry in building paying 2200 and i 6000).i dint know that people (specially the non locals ) are coming here and cheating other people in qatar's name.i would caution you against these real estate companies.also if any1 of you could give me any kind of advice,i will b grateful.

agree with the reply above about the different rental prices negotiated, some details still seem a bit vague but if this is what you signed for willingly that is what you have to follow through but if you were forced to sign something unwillingly you will have to prove otherwise...........

I don't know about the rest of the story's legality, but agreeing to the rent and then complaining afterwards - well, that shows a lack of due diligence and marketplace knowledge.

Given the ups and downs of real estate prices in Qatar, people in the same building in the same style apartment may pay different prices - that they negotiated at the time of the rental agreement. Nothing illegal on that point.

this is common over here...where people are cheated by middlemen [so call estate agents] as they take commission and also the landlord gives them a months rent....and after sometime they will also stop maintainenance of the building..systematic harrasment will continue..i am a vicitim myself...

Ok and how did they cheat you?

Seems what they did appears legal, if a little unscrupulous you would have done well to look at the local market.Besides giving you a wider variety of places to choose from it would also have given you some idea of what a property is worth.Qatar's name has little to do with this either way.

"they made me do an agreement of 1 year" - They made you? Did you sign the contract willingly, without being coerced or abused?
