Trucks on the Pearl

Yesterday a large, articulated, tipper truck of the type used for bulk earth/rock turned over on a roundabout at Viva Bahriya on the Pearl. It was only lightly-loaded and apart perhaps from the driver, no-one else seemed to have been involved or injured. But it could have been a serious accident.

Why are these big trucks permitted on roads not designed for them through a residential district where children's playgrounds are close to the roads? They are not part of the on-going construction of the Pearl itself. Why is rock still being unloaded from barges and trucked all the way through the Pearl?

One more instance of poor planning or execution of infrastructure development? One more accident waiting to happen.

The Whole of Doha is soon going to be one big Construction Site. Pearl technically is still a Construction site with the ongoing Construction.

The Lusail Expressway is just started so more trucks and traffic and diversions.

They're generally not permitted, but the penalties are light as is the enforcement.

As cherukkhan says it is very difficult to get out of the Lagoona Mall road at that time because the volume of traffic leaving the Pearl (mainly trucks and workers' buses) blocks the little roundabout.

Long term, the access to the Pearl will be enhanced by a grade segregated junction to the Lusail Road - but standby for even more hassle for years while that is built.

Banning trucks from built-up areas at peak times would be very sensible. Other GCC cities have implemented it - why not Doha?

But I don't want them in the Pearl at any time - unless they are actually needed for construction in the Pearl.

When (and If...) the Metro construction gets going we will all have a real problem with trucks in town. Bored tunnels need hundreds of truck movements to remove spoil and to deliver tunnel lining segments.

Doha is not going to be a pleasant place on the roads - even worse than it is now !!

I am not going even to Lagoona Mall after 4.30pm because of the heavy trucks in those roads on my way back.
