I'd like to buy a new phone as a gift, and was wondering which one I should get. I've narrowed it down between IPhone 5 or the galaxy samsung 3s. Please advise and reason why.

ipad Mini...another joke from Apple...looks like you got a bonus or too much money lying around...give me i'm going on vacation i can enjoy that.
that would be good idea as to have a discussion before to choose between iPad mini, Note-II or iPhone 5.
Khanan i'm not someone who easily gets impressed by phones...and for me who used Apple for a long time knows the vast difference between the two.
I could depend on how the person uses the phone but please even under ANY circumstances the Iphone 5 sucks sheeeet through a straw!

Oh yeah master mas..please do list those 20 things you could do and I'll give you 20 things that are way superior than the Iphone or iOS that is still in the stone age compared to Android.
i used iPhone 5 for 10 days and then sold it and got a Galaxy Note 2.. used it for like 20 days.
threw it and got my iPhone 5 back.
i am *censored* never going to use Android again.
iOS is so *censored* superior in every way.
i can list about 20 things that suck in the Note2. compared to iPhone 5.

i used to think the iphone was pretty. but after several years and phone models that look the same it's not very pretty anymore.
i used to think the samsung galaxy note's size is ridiculous, but i now think touch screen smartphones are better when they're bigger because that's when you can fully utilize their capabilities. been drooling over the galaxy note 2 for months.
S2 will meet all the common requirements and more. If you're into gadgets and latest, then go for S3. iphone doesnt even come into comparison, it is just a shiny brand label.

I believe that samsung is more useful. I state this because I do not have to keep on logging into Itunes to DownLoad things. Also, keep in mind that Apple phones uses Samsung IC components in their phones.

value for money Vs Big high end brand
IPhone 5 was supposed to revolutionize the mobile market but it didn't, and failed badly in many place such as back of Iphone and edges gets scratched badly and Maps are very bad. Samsung did when they introduced Galaxy S3 and very recently Galaxy Note 2. So Samsung Galaxy is the better choice.
Galaxy S III would be a better option, iPhone 5....I think Osama explained why.
For those in marketing and show-business iphone 5 is more advisable being attractive in looks and some great features...but costly

LIQ if he travels a lot then the Samsung is the best for him, it was made for people on the go. Go to youtube and check it out..trust me he will be bored of the Iphone 5 :(
The phone is a gift for my husband, I use a tiny BB pearl gotta support the Canadian brand. He travels a lot so would that make a difference in choice? Data, updates etc...
Iphone 5 is a rip off...no ground breaking features, stupid ios 6 that everyone seems to be facing problems with when connecting to wifi and 3G dont know about LTE, You will just be paying a lot of money for 2 inches more of something that wont give you any satisfaction LOL :P
Go for iphone 5.. Samsung phones are huge and ugly looking...you're profile says you're a lady.. and you surely don't wanna hide half of your face while talking on your phone...:D
Who cares about apps and all the BS .. when you have a real brand in your hand ;)

Of course you know my answer. I have galaxy y. I am getting the Samsung 3 soon. Same reason as everyone better then apple.
I cant believe im saying this but yes i agree with Osama S3 or if you want get the Galaxy Note 2 that is one awesome freaking phone..i know its big but do check out the reviews. S3 is good compared to Iphone 5 but the Note 2 seems to be the best phone so far as features and OS is concerned.
S3 coz:
1- cheaper
2- bigger
3- free application
4- no worries abt jail brake & unlock & other B.S.
etc
