Villaggio - Thank God No One Was Killed
http://dohanews.co/post/33514241057/parents-question-mall-safety-measure...
When a friend told me about this incident yesterday, my exclamation was "No Way!". I could not believe that the words Villaggio and Incident had beed placed together again. Fortunately my friend was able to tell me that he thought no one had been hurt.
This morning I read the Gulf Times and find no mention of this clearly important story. However I check Doha News and voila there it is. Well done Doha News for reporting on subjects that others are afraid of.
What is it about Villaggio? Is it cursed? Are the Syrian Government going to claim responsibility for another incident designed to embarrass Qatar? Or is Villaggio simply experiencing an unfortunate chain of events?
And lastly; What will be the next story to appear with the word "Villaggio" in it.
nomerci, you are absolutely right!
Sometimes I refrain myself from doing certain things simply because we are lacking consistent rules. Just an example: Aspire Park, wherever you look at it it's plain stupid and nonsense. This was not a problem for locals until yesterday since it started affecting them.
Now going back to you Jasmine, the one who's been trying to shoot everybody down IS YOU! I see nothing wrong with constructive criticism, so whether you like it or not we will have to agree to disagree.
Spock, I use the facilities that are necessary for my living here. The others, most of them for some form of entertainment, I leave alone.
I think quite a lot of people are doing this. Maybe that is why many people find Qatar a bit boring.
In the 8 years I have used Qatar Living it has become less and less friendly and more a little group of people who seem to spend all day just shooting everyone else down.
Personally I am not scared of bullies.
Ok Angelina and Jasmine, you both seem to be in the realistic side of the house and most of us are doomed by stupidity and false expectations.
If that's the case why don't you just carry on? (as per one of your previous comments) and let the idiots like us rant and birch all we want?
This is an internet forum, don't you get it? I can draw it in a whiteboard for you if that helps!
Oh and it's not the expats that have a say in anything that happens here and the sooner they realise that the better!!! Expats are here to work and that's it we are not here to make things right.........End of....
Yes those with a brain and thinking outside the box expect such a thing from where they live.....such a comment is nothing but prehistoric......Enjoy......
That's it. Don't use ANY facilities in Qatar, they are all dangerous, including the roads!! And they will be that way because nobody cares and nobody is responsible. Only the stupid expats want security and such things.
I'm all against the attitude 'if you don't like it then go home' but I'm with Jasmine on this one.....I'm almost immune to the way things are run here really....it's not my country and my opinion won't be heard anyway so just get on with it!! Don't worry about what you can't fix...That's the way it is so just carry on!! I for one would never allow my child on any ride in this country as I'm not convinced there are any safety regulations here but that's because I'm aware of the potential dangers.......Just look out for your own (yours and your family's) safety and continue with life here! if people worry and bitch too much it'll eat you alive .... Nuff said....
Mike, i have been in Qatar for 8 years and am very happy. If i was the type to listen to ignorant idiots, I would have stayed in the UK. See ya luv
move on Qatar...
You're right jasmine, you are too intelligent for us. Ciao-ciao, arrivederci, hasta la vista, au revoir, sayonara.
I don't need to leave Qatar, I accept the way it is and enjoy living and working here. If you people truly hate the way the country is run so much why live here? I didn't like much living in the UK, that's why I left. I am still yet to find any intelligent discussion on here about this.
Is that really the point? I think it is the fact that the assumed responsible people can just stay away from court. Why don't the police knock at their doors and say, please come with us, now! It's so fukcing easy for a Qatari to ignore the law!
@ nomerci
that cant always fix it fast. there have been bases where people were suspended in the air for hours.
this past summer while i was in the states. a rollercoaster ride called he superman at six flags was stuck in the air (around a 100 feet) for 3 hours.
amusement park rides malfunction anywhere you go.
UR RYT JASMINE BETTER GO BACK TO UK
no doubt..the souls will forever hunt villagio till justice is serve..since it re-open, i did not even dare to visit it..and i hope not in the near future..
What's the color of the sky in YOUR world Jasmine? I suspect that your rose colored glasses turn the dusty blue to a bleak purple
Give them more powers to stop single males from entering the malls on Friday?
Yes, but they can fix it. Fast.
This is typical of a theme park. In the states people have been suspended 100s of feet in the air while on rides. Unfortunately you cannot predict when a ride malfunctions.
I think they should give the security staff more support n authority (no matter they are Asian or not) ; as it's difficult for them with no power to back them up when trying to stop people carrying on the wrong act, otherwise I do think its understandable for them to be scare n worry to lose their job n get kick out of the country.
Obviously the views of all are not represented on Ql.Otherwise things like these would be handled in an entirely different manner.
Just remember that a small group of you penetrate QatarLiving and DohaNews with your opinions but you do not neccessarily represent the views of all. I am not prepared to be held accountable for where I shop or where I live because of a small group of individuals who spend a disproportionate amount of time on narrow fora. wtfing people is not intelligent discourse. I rest my case.
yes they do, but if people don't want to find out why they happen, and recify the mistakes that were made so that future lives are not lost, then that is bad.
You just saying accidents happen, get over it, is easy . . . for you.
Jasmine no one here is questioning about accidents not happening, the issue is that who are responsible or accountable for such accidents should be brought to justice!
The distraught parents are still looking for answers and the public as a whole is looking what has been learnt and what has been done to make sure such accidents to not happen again.
Spock, real world is a tough place to be. That's their punishment!
jasmine, "accidents" caused by negligence happen everywhere and the negligent have to pay a price. Here, they go on holiday!!!
Well said.. If only i was twenty years younger :O)
Jasmine, you're right: it's time for you to go home.
:D
For goodness sake, these things happen everywhere. If you don't like it don't go. If you don't like Qatar go home and pay tax. It is so ridiculous and ignorant to make such a fuss about an entirely random and unconnected incident. There was a tragedy at Villagio, nobody is denying that. I have worked for many years in the UK in paediatric ED. We had tradegedys as well and some of them were entirely down to the actions of an individual. I didn't see any of the expats packing up and leaving, remember the Qatari boy who was savagely murdered? If your world is so small that Dohanews is your source of entertainment and one incident in an entire country rules your opinions, it is probably time to go home to the real world.
So in case of fire drills, people go about their business ignoring the alarm?
That is strange.
been there lately, fire alarms keep blasting like every 10 minues or so,,,,,,,,staff of all establishments doesnt seem to care though,
according to some, alarms are overly sensitive and goes off to anything.
I've been a couple times and yeah the fire alarms went off on my last visit, probably just testing them, which is a good thing in my book!..
Surprised that no one is aware of the great Qatar Magic Carpet Show, where everyone and everything gets swept under.
Any one (leave alone children) hung upside down can be seriously dangerous. Vomiting in such condition can be life threatening.
I hope institutional reforms take place as with the abundance of money and resources available to this country, there is absolutely no reason to delay.
No intentions of going to Villagio until the time justice has been served for the poor victims. (hoping it will still happen.)Though my kids are pleading for the desire to play in gondolandia, I tell them it is NOT YET safe. :(
or greatly - maybe the feeling of uneasiness knowing so many people senselessly died in the place still gives me goosebumps.
Sad thing, some people/management never really learn. :(
I think villagio is not yet ready to open, last two week i went there with my husband and the fire alarm went on and then off for many times, i was too worried and people did nt show any fear and kept walking and shopping, I emmediately quit the place.
anyway thanks allah to keep the kids alive and protected them.
Villagio is a car that hasn't passed the technical inspection and drives with an expired road permit. And since that is easy to do in Qatar, nothing will change. And if there is an accident, the guilty ones refuse to appear in court.
The management of Villagio are a bunch of insensitive arrogant clueless folks.
They did not allow a floral tribute to be placed closed to where the 19 victims died. The flowers were ordered to be removed as soon as they were placed and any thing which was left the kids got hold of it.
Brit, if you want to take the risk, drive. BUT: be prepared for disaster.
I just have a bad feeling about the place now. And I don't trust the management. I have no need to go there, and would just rather stay away from so much negativity.
Cars can breakdown anywhere. So you shouldn't drive cars..
If "incidents like this can happen anywhere" it is irresponsible of any parents to let their children use these devices!
Incident like this can happen anywhere but the fact that they were totally clueless after the incident is kind of scary.
The reaction to me seems a bit over the top.
These types of incidents occur in fairgrounds and theme parks all over the world.
The children were "rescued" and than God are safe and sound.
I would agree though that there should be specific plans and procedures in place to quickly handle such situations and all staff should be aware of and be trained to follow these.
At the moment I have no desire to return to Villaggio all things considered.
I’m just glad no one was hurt and the kids left to their home safely.
However and on a more angry note I believe that a couple of more souls need to perish in this mall for the country to take more serious steps towards betterment of safety standards across the country and for the mall’s management to make sterner operating laws and emergency plans, because it’s obvious the fire didn't do nothing to wake up neither the govt nor the the operators and managers regarding enforcing the safety standards.
though it is not reported in GT, but The Peninsula did report :
http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/qatar/210680-children-get-stuck-during-fun-ride-at-villaggio-park.html
Seriously, Villaggio is cursed. Did they close or something? I don't really mind shopping somewhere else.
and why they have to wait for Civil Defence for 45 mins?
were there not any emergency plan in place???
More reason to extend my boycott of the Villagio
They need to stop hiring these sissy Asian security folks who are afraid of losing their jobs for DOING their jobs.
so for me rather than appointing ppl , to let others know abt dress code , thy should appoint more safety officers at the rides and inside the villagio.....
they should know human lives are priority
I saw the open letter signed by all the parents of the children who died there - it breaks my heart to think that the perpetrators could consolidate their grief by being so cowardly as to not attend the court. Why are they allowed to do this? How have they left the country with pending court cases?
When the world was watching Qatar promised that lessons would be learned and that justice would be done . . . now that the limelight has subsided it has been swept under the carpet.
I dont know what the security in Villagio does anyways...if you go to the men's bathroom you see these arab kids smoking in there when it clearly says NO Smoking! Like WTF you want to smoke go outside and do it.
obviously that mall is in cursed until justice is served further.
Since it has open I never think to come to that mall again.
at Villagio the fire alarm went off. My husband and I were the ONLY ones who left the theatre (after approximately 5 minutes) the usher tried to make us go back in. After another 20 minutes with the alarm still on (and no one else came out of the theatre!) we left and demanded our money back. If it had been a real fire and not just a small fire in a bathroom trash can that day, the entire packed theatre would have been a morgue. Fire safety is a joke in Qatar.
Woah! I dont believe this..and to think they would have learned from their past mistakes. At this rate i wonder how safe their movie theaters are...God forbid a fire breaks out there. As for me I'm staying away from villagio.
Wonder why no international arrest warrants are been issued? Are you telling me these accused can just keep prolonging their vacation in some lala land and keep getting excused? Allahu Must3aan!
It was the owner and her husband failed to show up again. Reported to be out of the country.
She is the daughter of the Culture Minister!
Really?? Now that's just shameful!
villagio is cursed until the justice for the 19 victims of the tragic Fire is served.
The second hearing of the criminal trial was again postponed to a future date as two the key defendants fail to show up again.
Villagio sure seems jinxed. Or perhaps some competitor/adversary up to mischief? Or just careless management? Either ways that place is surely a danger zone and best avoided. Considering the fact that the victims of the previous tragedy are yet to get there justice, I wouldn't go there in hurry..as luring as Dean and Deluca is!
