How good are Karwa services?

blisteringbarnacles2007
By blisteringbarna...

How good are Karwa services? Are they:
1. Courteous/Rude?
2. Taking the correct route/Longer route?
3. Have they asked you "do you want to go by the meter"?
4. Using the GPS?
6. In knowledge of the route?
7. A pleasure/displeasure to ride?

Lol... Painther... You must be the only lucky one... to get good Karwa experience...

Yeah UK... but the drivers trick the people into believing that if the passenger agrees to go without using meter then they will get lower rate... actually they end up paying higher.

I'm sorry to disappoint Smoke but i really have to go, my latest assignment (on this subject) is due at 5pm and I have a page of scribbles, mainly doodles of flowers I have done whilst on QL. Bye Tinkerbell, thanks for a good debate.

I obviously get the way it is here, I have been here for 8 years and had a variety of jobs. We all know how vulnerable the workers are. I am saying that the reason services are shoddy is because they don't look after their staff in any shape or form. It is the very most basic of HRM principles in modern (since 1975ish) theory.

What do you think I do for a job? I don't work in an ice cream shop! This is what I do for a job. I don't sit around all day reading books, I work in a HR role.

Prism-I never said the exploitation was racism. I said I don't like the casual way that QL allows casual racism on almost every thread you read. Why each driver has to be defined by his race is utterly outdated. Thank you for changing it, I know a lot of it is because we come from different cultures but it doesn't make it right.

I agree but the change will only ever come from Karwa. I am studying this at the moment. Employees who are not fairly rewarded or experience unfairness such as broken promises about leave, arrive here and find their contract is not what they signed up to, dangerous and shoddy housing etc, will not be able to perform at his full potential. Motivation and reward and, actually more successful, making the employee feel valued creates a workforce of well disciplined and loyal staff. It goes back to the massive outsourcing of jobs that happened in the early 2000s. Everyone says how good the orange cabs were, iI vaguely remember them but why? Why were orange drivers more satisfied? I would love to research this further.

I agree with blisteringbarna regrding the refusal of accepting passengers by an empty taxi driver. I have been in Dubai during the old busy season when it was very difficult to find an empty taxi but none of the empty ones refused to take the passengers but Karwa is the only one which refuses to accept a passenger especially if he/she is going for a short ride.

I don't live in an idealistic world, I live in the modern world where racism is unacceptable. Maybe you need to go and live in a less protected environment where you will learn that in the 21st Century, humans are considered equal to one another. You have no idea, really you don't.

1. Most of the VERY RUDE (based on my eperienced)

2. Longer route

3. EVERYTIME

4. BIG NO

6. they know but they want long drive so they pretend NO

7. Yah its a pleasure huhuhu.

If U found u'r meter in 0 means your travelling outside doha the meter run faster than regular 1 means u are travelling inside doha. This is the technique for them to earn more. Check if there is bottle of Mineral Water that covers and hide their meter.

This was also adviced by one of the good Karwa driver to me before. be aware.

Never had a problem with them. Always found them courteous. Took slightly longer routes a couple of times, but perhaps they know of traffic jams better than me.

"How many of you do free overtime?"....I am mostly found in office not only on weekdays after work (normally 3-4 hrs each day running upto say 8-9 hrs at times i.e. upto 11 PM) but also on Fridays and Saturdays...:) And being a Senior staff I am not entitled for overtime....:)

By jasminejasmine• 17 Oct 2012 12:36
jasminejasmine

Goodness, how disgusting, human beings wanting to take a rest break, being hungry or wanting to go off duty when he is due. How many of you do free overtime?

The are clearly organizational issues with Karwa and as in any business, the impact of this is on a) the employee and b) the customer.

Why not state your complaints in writing and submit them to the management? if they don't reply, well don't give them your custom. There are plenty of private drivers available.

I hope you people appreciate having internet access and employment where you have breaks, food, water and somewhere decent to live. And if you have your families with you lucky old you. They don't. They are also not the people making the money from the business. They are being exploited just like you, the customer.

Please can't people have a tiny bit of compassion and sense?

Till now...

1. Experienced 15 Rude drivers & 3 good drivers

2. They do try to take the longer route

3. They always try not to switch on the meter and they are always courteous when they ask this question.... and become quite grumpy when they get a "No"...lol

4. Never use GPS. And dont know the way either.

5. 50% of the time they pretended not to know the route.

6. Only 3 times did I enjoy the drive. One guy had nice music playing out and he had also put in air fresher.

7. Empty Karwa have regularly refused to take a passenger.

Apparently Al Million are same as they also seem to be hiring same Car and driver from Karwa. Last time two empty Al Million taxi refused to drive me.... I guess this must be the only country in the WORLD where an empty Taxi refuses to take passenger.

Why are such Illegal services allowed in a country trying for 2022? I guess they should terminate all the Karwa contracts and bring back the Pastun drivers.... most are still in Doha and its always a pleasure driving with them. I have never met a rude Orange Taxi driver.

I think Qatar shot itself in the head with Karwa!

By GodFather.• 17 Oct 2012 12:20

I read a poster on a Karwa taxi yesterday and it it read

"if my meter is not working, then the ride is free"

Is this an attempt by Karwa to weed out the cheating drivers?

Has anyone else notices these poster/stickers on Karwa taxis?

I agree with you Tinkerbell, they used to be polite and do what the customer wants and set the meter on entering the cab. Everything is the opposite now, no meters, they think you are foreign with loads of money. They chat too much in the car and ask questions which is none of their business. They decide where they want to go, NOT where you want to go, if it doesn't suit them, they shake their head and drive off!! If only there was another taxi company, then Karwa will start to pull up their socks!

tinker,

first one was under severe ‘peee’ pressure , so refused,

2nd, duty time over, so refused,

3rd, was hungry, going to taxi hotel for a bite,

4th, time up for duty,

5th, had an earlier assignment, pre-booked, so refused,

Now ask your neighbor to have a car herself and stop cribbing :)

1) Don't use them much except in and out of airport. However, had bad experience with an $$$$$$$$ (as told by the driver himself...tried to run away with my bag) and an ************ (asked for more than the amount on meter as tip to provide better living for his 7-8 kids back home. I only asked him why so many if you cant afford. I walked out without being asked the second time).

2) They know the route, never had to direct them but some did try to use the long route only to be denied by me.

3) NA

4) Dont know.

5) Not in the list ...:)

6)Refer 2.

7) Just OK...for 10-15 minutes I am not looking for former.

By jasminejasmine• 17 Oct 2012 10:59
jasminejasmine

I use them a lot for a variety of uses as I live in Dukhan.

5 years ago if you called and asked for a taxi tomorrow they would say that nothing was available until 3am two weeks on Tuesday.

Now they say yes no problem, call back to confirm the details, call the day before to remind me and call when he is on the way.

I have never had a problem with the drivers except sometimes they are clearly under a lot of pressure and stressed. Maybe people could show some compassion for the drivers who live under difficult conditions so you get a cheap service.

By the way I find the blatant racism on this website offensive. Most forums would not allow it. It is outrageous to define people by their nationality and such serious allegations, if not able to prove are simply slanderous.

for me,

they are 10/10, why, I used their services ONLY for airport pick & drop, wallahi, can be booked over phone, they're always ONTIME, reasonably courteous, correct route-well, there's noway he can take a detour,

pleasure : i dont expect 'pleasure' from 'em.
