Is Doha Too Expensive????
We are thinking of moving from central England to Doha. My husband has been offered a job with a tax free salary that's only a little less than his gross salary here.
However, the company is not providing accommodation, flights or help with schooling. In the UK we wouldn't incur any of these costs.
Can anyone help us confirm what these would cost in Doha?
Accommodation 12000QR per month for a 3+ bedroom villa
Flights 2500QR per person return
School fees 20000QR per year (child aged 13)
Would buying a property be more cost effective?
Don't leave the UK unless your offer covers all expenses. Tickets could be 4500 or even 5000 around Xmas. Schools for a 13 yr old could be as much as 65k. Very limited spaces in Doha check with all the Schools before committing.
Visa costs and RP not major but need considering
Life is very expensive
Villas ... You could pay as little as 12 and as much as 35.
Your choice
Jaga Babu is right.
Not a good offer at all. British education here is minimum 35k-40k QAR per year/child (that is if you can get admission). Housing is absurdly high for mediocre compounds with so-so quality.
Advise is to include accommodation, yearly travel, schooling as a minimum.
12k for a villa? It should be withing the range of 20k-25k.
The school tuition? You better check if there's a vacant slot for your kid first. With the limited number of schools here, there's a long waiting list.
" little less than his gross salary here"??
Forget about it.
He should make here at least 50-70% more than he makes back home, otherwise it's not worth it.
As for your cost examples,
Accommodation 12000QR per month for a 3+ bedroom villa - it's ok, although could be up to 14-18, depends on the area
Flights 2500QR per person return - at least 3,500
School fees 20000QR per year (child aged 13) - someone might correct me, but I think a good school isn't less than 40,000 a year. Education is very costly here.
And again, why to leave his present job, to accept somthing "less", and to live far away form your home, family and friends?? Think about your child as well. 13 years old is very tricky age..
Forget it then. Education and drinking would kill you here.
