Convict in burqa-clad jailbreak

By Good old joe

A man convicted of terror offences escaped from a high-security jail by wearing a burqa to disguise himself as a woman, police said on Thursday.

Roki Aprisdianto, who was serving a six-year sentence for involvement with a militant group, put on the full-length Muslim garment and walked out of the prison with a group of burqa-clad women visitors, police said.

The 29-year-old prisoner is believed to have made his escape after a visiting woman wearing two burqas passed him one.

At the time of the escape on Wednesday, the prison, which holds around 70 terror convicts, was being guarded by four members of the elite anti-terror squad and seven other police officers.

"In the future, besides deploying more police personnel, we will also ask visitors to lift up the veil covering their face as they leave the facility," Rikwanto said.

Why don't you guys create "religion" forum...would make things a lot easier.

Besides, we are in Qatar, where religion, quite obviously, plays a large role. So why can't people talk about it on QL? Because there may be controversy? and if...so what ? Where is the problem?

Please do elaborate.

Or is QL now only for those who talk about all that is agreeable?

Couldn't agree more! The blame is solely on the not so elite Anti terror squad, who didn't have the sense God gave a billy goat to realize that they needed to keep checks of all those coming and going, burqa or no burqa!

there is always a scope for wrong deeds if we intend to look for the wrong things always.. As simple as using a knife to murder someone, which was actually sold in the shop for cutting the meat and vegetables..

Does this mean that we should stop using knife completly for any puspose..?

if someone is using the Burqa as a cover to escape from a prison.. i really think that the prison authorities are really dumb enough to keep a count on ppl who came in and went out on that day..

Take your religion topics to the right forum.....

By anonymous• 10 Nov 2012 12:35

I agree. It always comes to religion. However, coming back to the Topic.

It is gross negligence of the Jail management to allow him to escape. Counting of how many came in and how many are leaving would be a simple solution.

Another simple solution is to hire women inspectors in checking the face of those who are wearing Burqa, before they leave the jail.

should have been like where I am from.

Must leave your ID and sign in then back out after visiting prisoner.

So the one with no id and no sign in would have been caught....EH????

Strange lack of security scary!!

To think it took him so long to realize this in a maximum security prison. Ah well...better late than never, eh?

Oh really? Because a woman (rapper ironically ) ONE turned to Islam , automatically deletes all the hideous acts done in the name of Islam?

If lets say Stephen Hawkins or wait, George Clooney reverts to Christianity, does that mean Christianity is no longer responsible for the Witch hunts and crusades and the prosecution of Jews?

You really need to raise your intellect barrier.

No it hasn't! French people ARE not comfortable !

Not because one or two or 3 of your friends wear Niqab means they are the French people!

The french people are kind enough to put up with the bullocks of people like you who try and impose their believes France .

You must thank your precious god that Europe is a free speaking continent or else if you go to Somalia trying to spread Christianity or whatever you WILL be killed.

So instead of abusing the kindness and freedom of people , keep your views to yourself.

One day French people were all loving each other living in peace and boom millions of people immigrates in, fill it with hate and irrationality and you expect them to be comfortable?

Here you go:

Banning the burqa in France has nothing to do with the "beauty of Islam" it only has to do with the comfort of citizens.

The French people are not comfortable walking around with people who they don't even know what they have under the burqa.

It is THEIR country, you do not go to someone's else country and impose your rules.

That being said, I believe the ones who wear burqa in someone's country and make them uncomfortable are naive and selfish.

britexpat i agree.... Ban the burqa. we have to keep our habits outside of Qatar when we come here, so should the burga in our country,,,do you see us topless on teh beach here...NO, do you see us making out in a park here,,,NO,, do you see us walking araound in summer cloths here..>NO... so i agree ban the Burga in France and abroard....one rule for all not for some

And yikes at your experience Ingesu. Scary! Which kinda reminds me of how this dude gate crashed a ladies only event once wearing niqaab. My sister's friend had to make the ghastly discovery.

That said I must tell ya that before we board any planes, we are made to uncover our faces at the airport offices to prove our identity. Even here in Doha we have to show our faces to the visa officials. Obviously women with niqab HAVE to be checked cos the truth is yes..anyone can be under em! And we niqab adorning Muslim ladies do understand this and hence don't protest against such measures.

Tashinmim THOSE ones were not wearing a Burqa.

What reminds me I was at Landmark in a very nice expensive Boutique and there was a man (or a woman with excessive facial hair!!!) in a Burka... someone later told me that was kind of normal... aarghhh,... travesties!! and of course, they will erase my post but I swear it is true! so , beware!

:D
