Delhi bans all plastic bags
Great move.. But what about those companies that manufacture these items - They will go out of business...
I do believe that such a ban is a good thing - especialy for the long term environmental benefits..
The Delhi government imposed a blanket ban on the use of all plastic bags on Friday in an attempt to tackle the city's mounting rubbish problems, an official said.
Thin plastic bags – measuring less than 40 microns thick – were banned in India's capital in 2009, but the new rules will cover all plastic packaging for items such as magazines and greeting cards as well as garbage bags.
"Plastic is an environmental disaster. These bags clog the city's drains, they are non-biodegradable. It might take time, but we have to ensure that this ruling is enforced throughout Delhi," a spokesman said

I think many things need to be banned apart form bags.
this is a great move indeed...
let's do our part... if you can avoid using plastic, please do so... like when we buy small items like medicines, no need to use plastic, they can be "pocketed", of course in coordination with the store staff :)
but if you have no choice, please consider re-using or recycling plastic...
cheers!
Now I know why ists called Wind-a-Loo :O(
By the way Qatar had placed a ban on packageing bread in plastic some while back but it was never implemented.
I guess plastic manufacturers lobbied against it...
i remember the other day britey was in the loo room after having hot spicy Vindaloo...he flushed - but the water came back with the same speed so he decided to jump inside the loo thing and found a plastic bag of a Glucose-D biscuit which i threw the other day....:)
You have to pay for plastic bags in some parts of UK now, and people are encouraged to buy 'bags for life' that can be used more than once. Even In a McDonalds Drive Thru in Wales you have to pay for the paper bag that your meal comes in.
So, do you bring your own bags or do they provide alternatives ?
