Can this be a reason for rape ?
The story is sad enough, but is it possible that the rape ocurred because the spouse was working abroad ?
Father rapes underage daughter after mother goes on overseas job
A 38-year-old father of three was arrested by Puttalam police in Sri Lanka for raping his 13-year-old daughter several times, ‘Lakbima’ reported.
The victim from Athungoda area in Kottukachchiya, is a grade eight student of a school in the same area.
The girl with her two younger sisters were living under the care of the father since their mother had gone for overseas employment.
Since the girl could not bear father’s harassment, she related the incident to her grandmother, who lodged a complaint at Puttalam police station.
Police arrested the suspect after medical examination proved that the girl was raped several times.
The suspect to be produced before the Puttalam District Court.

Colombo: A man who returned from jail was riled on learning that his wife had eloped with her lover so much so he unleashed his anger by raping his 20-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, on his release from prison, he learnt his wife had left his five children behind and eloped with her lover.
While in jail he learnt that his wife was in a relationship with another man.

Spouse working abroad is no excuse. Men like the perpetrator would do the same had his wife just popped out to the corner shop. How anyone can do this to their own flesh and blood is beyond me! I mean to rape your own child? Truly sickening.. Hope and pray the man now gets a just recompense however given the kinda legal system is SL I doubt he will be sentenced to anything less than a few years of rigorous imprisonment!

Father was a normal human being till this incident , married with three children , planned for future & sent his wife abroad by shouldering the responsibility of home & kids .... saying on the basis that his wife trusted & gave him that task .... I wonder if this gets reported less when the spouse is at home, out of fear of an abusive husband. That would make it seem as though it happens more when he's alone, which may not be true. Some men just don't respect women, whether their spouse is present or not.
This things seem to be happening on a regular basis out there and whether the spouse is abroad or not seems to be just a distraction
Galinda, I agree. Especially after the thread saying that the wife who was killed in Saudi by her husband was at fault because it is the woman's job to keep harmony in the home.
Hopefully they will steer clear of this so that the rest of the people who use this forum can have a decent conversation for once.
in my persee i don't think it have been the reason, a lot of some other cases that the father rapes the daughter even when his wife is with him...am getting goosebumps typing the words "father raping daughter" it's just so condeming what this man did to his daughter :( ...in my opinion as punishment he should be tied up on a tree in the middle of the forest naked, and be left bitten by wild insects :(

This is the second story of a father raping his daugher in not more than a fortnight. Dont know what is wrong with the fathers. Really sad.
Noooo..There is no single reason which can justify a rape..without permission if I can't borrow even a small thing how could I ever think of forcing someone to gimme herself.
Mother goes abroad..father stays home itself is such a shame in terms of Asian culture.. instead of protecting her and supporting her as both MOM and DAD he acted as a monster. If our women is not safe in her own home and harassed by one of the most trustworthy bonding.. then how could she be safe outside. Such a shame.. All these stories makes me think that we all need something more than the normal education. Education gives us knowledge but to apply it practically we need an inner force.
Sending healing thoughts her mom and the girl. May she get over it and pick herself up to live a normal life again.
Father should be punished with multiple counts of harassment, breach of trust etc.
