Sponsorship, Residence Status issues

Okay majorly need some information.

We have been in Qatar around 7 Weeks to find that the employer we were looking to pursue sponsorship through lies and cheats all of its employees and as a result a handful have walked out over the weekend mainly because they are here on tourist Visas.

We have an Issue we decided originally to go down the sponsorship route but at all time we were made aware and as it states in the contract that we have a 3 month probation period and that we may terminate the contract within that 3 month period without notice if for any reason any party was unhappy with the arrangement.

Now like a good british expat i wrote a beautiful resignation letter and handed it over to my employer outlining what he had said and what the contract had stipulated in regards to probationary termination.

He advised that i am not able to terminate even though he understands its contractual as their RP who is processing the sponsorship has processed everything and therefore we are on the company sponsorship but we have not done any medical and we have not given any fingerprints.

We have our passports and we renewed our tourist visa in the ususal manner last month and it is due for renewal this friday (So we are due to fly out and come back).

But we are being told we cannot leave as we need an exit permit and if we want to move employer we need them to Issue us with a NOC which apparently they will not do until a year has resided with the company.

As you can imagine i am utterly Gobsmacked and shocked at the nerve and cheek of this individual and felt absaloutely disguted in his deceit.

Now my questions relating to this matter, how can we check what our residency status is because i do not beleive a word the man utters?

Who should we speak to regarding this matter? Are we on their sponsorship as we do not have any documents or information to stipulate this conjecture?

How can we check the status of such proceedings? We are due to move over to a new employer with the next 4 weeks and our current employer is trying to force us to stay against our will and against the contractual agreement.

Any help will be much appreciated.

We have no stamp in our passport and they are in our possession at the moment. We want to stay in the Gulf and work here in Qatar, After checking the ministry of Interiors website, it states that we are here currently on a 5 year Work Visa but we have not agreed such terms, we thought we were protected under the 3 month probation period as the contract states in the first paragraph. Will the British Embassy be able to offer any legal counseling in regards to the is matter or would they offer mediation with the organization, we want a NOC if we are on a visa which we have not agreed to under the probation period.

The best option is to go and speak with one of the inspectors sitting in the Labor department, industrial area, street number 13 main Al Attiya Road. They would definitely give you the guidance as well as support that you want in the current situation. They are also empowered to speak with the company and carve out a way forward solution. Any such complaint rectification is their main job.

Go to the British Embassy and seek advice if you need it.

You are still on a tourist visa, if your passport has NOT been stamped by the company then you can ho home , why don't you fly out and not come back? There is nothing stopping you if your passport has not been stamped..the minute it has then they 'own' you for a year and you will need to seek permission to leave even after the year is up....

If you have taken this visa on your name than ur on work visa. If its so than u need exit permit. And if u leave job u will face ban 2 yrs for work if no noc. U can go out with help of embassy. But for work I think u can't return till 2 yrs of last exit. U can come back on visit visa. If u think u been cheated u can go to labour department and court. They can help. If no I'd yet u can ask moi or labour department regarding ban period. May be exit permit will also not require if no I'd but I m not sure best way is to take ticket and ask to moi department at airport that u want to go out and whether they allow or exit required? There u will know abt exit permit. If they allow than u free or else go to embassy.
