Three youths sentenced to prison for street racing
A criminal court has sentenced three youth to one year in jail and ordered to cancel their driver’s licence for six months for racing on a highway causing the death of a person and serious injuries to another.
The court also ordered the youths to pay blood money worth QR200,000 to the family of the victim, in conjunction with the insurance companies, Al Sharq reported.
They were charged with murder by mistake, engaging in car race in the street without taking permission from the authorities concerned and rash driving endangering lives of people and properties,
The road accident report stated that the youths had engaged in a car race on Semaisma road near Al Khor. During the race one of the cars slipped from the highway after the driver lost control. It then hit the steel divider on the road and rolled over several times. One person was killed in the incident and two people travelling in the car were injured, one of them seriously, said the daily.
Part of the road divider and a lamppost of the municipality were destroyed in the incident. During investigations the convicts confessed to the crime.

This thing happen many times in Qatar. Last month my car which was parked in front of villa was hit by a youth driving landcruiser in a rash manner in street and running. I was informed by neighbor that a white landcruiser hit the car and run away, (sad part is no body noted the landcruiser number). When i go outside nobody was there. As car was not fully insured so all expenses for repairing were paid by me despite requesting the traffic department that it was not my fault.
May the departed soul rest in peace & injured one stands on his feet quickly ......

No body should be convicted, may his soul rest in peace but he was responsible of his actions, no body forced him to race.
Depends who did it Abu American...
If the youths had their licenses suspended for 6 months (what a joke that is) then they must be old enough to have had licenses in the first place.
It's not explicitly clear, but I also get the impression that the killed and injured were participants in the stupid race, and not innocent drivers who were on the same road.
The case will probably be appealed, just like the Villagio case - and who knows if anyone will ever spend a day in prison.
Uhmmm I think this article is a little incomplete. There are some pretty important information missing here, like:
1- What was the nationality of the driver/drivers?
2- Where they all the same nationality?
3- How old were they? It makes a huge difference how they get charged depending on whether they were minors or not.
4- How about the nationality of the person who died?
5- Also the deceased! It's unclear to me whether this was someone who was part of their street racing ring, or just an innocent bystander who had nothing to do with the whole thing?
Just some more clarification would be great. Also there's no such thing as Murder by Mistake. It's called Manslaughter or Murder 3rd degree.
