Toyota recalls 1 million drivers amid safety concerns

Toyota has recalled over one million drivers across the Gulf amid severe safety fears.

In an urgently called press conference, the car giant said it found serious safety defects in over 900,000 Land Cruiser drivers and small numbers of motorists in RAV4, Fortuner and Innova cars.

“Tests found very severe defects in drivers across our entire SUV range. Until further notice, nobody should attempt a journey with a Land Cruiser driver,” a spokesman warned.

The Japanese motor company said defective drivers were causing the vehicles to travel at excessive speeds, failing to stop at traffic lights, a heightened risk of crashes and an over-deployment of wasta in the case of severe accidents.

Car dealerships in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Oman have begun contacting customers to have the drivers inspected and temporarily replaced by trained Filipino house drivers.

“It is the safer option until we get to the root of the problem,” the spokesman added.

According to Toyota, people may notice an abnormal shouting sound coming from defective drivers, along with a sudden acceleration to the bumper of other cars and the deployment of flashing headlights and honking horn.

“We apologise most sincerely for including these drivers in our SUVs,” said Toyota’s regional head, bowing his head in traditional Japanese apology. “It was an oversight on our part that must be urgently rectified.”
