Microsoft will today launch the new and improved Hotmail after a year of testing and development.

The new Windows Live Hotmail is built on the AJAX platform, the same one Yahoo Mail has been using since its relaunch about a year ago. AJAX makes web-based applications look and feel like desktop email programs such as Outlook.

The new Hotmail offers 2GB of storage. Gmail offers 2.8GB and continues to increase while Yahoo is promising "unlimited storage" sometime in the not-too-distant future.
