Yonis Mehmood to recive Italian award
MILAN: Iraq’s AFC Asian Cup™ winning captain Younes Mahmoud will receive one of Italy’s most prestigious sports awards on November 5.
The 25-year-old striker will receive the Giacinto Facchetti prize, which was instituted by reputed Italian daily sports newspaper ‘Gazzetta dello Sport’ last year, in Milan.
The award consists of a bronze sculpture by Stefano Pierotti and a 10,000 euro donation to be given to a charity chosen by the player.
Giacinto Facchetti, considered a legend in Italian football history succumbed to cancer and died last year. He was serving as president of the Italian team Inter Milan.
Facchetti's family and FIFA president Joseph Blatter will attend the event.
Younes scored the match winner against Saudi Arabia in the final of the AFC Asian Cup™ and was named tournament MVP.
He is also in the running for the AFC Player of the Year and Ballon D’Or
