Egypt's 'Doodle 4 Google' Competition Winner Announced
After a week of voting by the public, the results are in for the favourite doodle from the My Egypt Doodle 4 Google competition. In honour of Orphans Day, 150 orphans were invited from across Egypt to participate in a competition to design the Google logo around the theme "My Egypt".
Today, Google announced the winner of the competition: Sameh Fadel age 15 is from Al Shabat Al Muslemat Orphanage. His creation 'My Egypt' was selected for its artistry and creativity as well as for its interpretation of the theme. Sameh's doodle will replace Google's regular logo on Google's homepage in commemoration of Orphan's Day.
In addition to getting his doodle on the Egyptian Google homepage, Sameh will also be awarded a 3,000 L.E. certificate bond. The Lions Cairo Capital will also grant Sameh a 1,000 L.E certificate. Each of the other 4 finalists will receive 500 L.E.
"This competition proved to be a huge success and inspiration both for us at Google and for the orphans involved. The public interest was fantastic and we managed to exceed 100,000 votes!" said Wael Ghonim, Marketing Manager at Google in Egypt. "All the orphans did a fantastic job in providing their interpretation of My Egypt in the Google logo theme - they were all winners!"
