Expectations....
In India woman not only marries a man but the whole family. The first few years she has to do her best to win all members of the family. Quite obviously woman may not act themselves, meaning they might be masking their true emotions. It may also result in battle of power . For some blending in a new family is easy while for others it may be difficult and intimidating.
The question is how much should a woman give herself and change her personality to suit the new environment. This question arises as one of my friend (divorced and remarried) called me for advice on her family problems. She wants to avoid confrontations but at the same time refuses to be "ordered around" - as she puts it. Since we both have very different personalities and my way of "compromise tactic" has failed on her I thought of putting this topic for various view points.
