Qatar faces affordable housing shortage
As a result of rapid urbanisation, coupled with influx of foreign workers, in some GCC countries, including Qatar, there is a big gap between demand and supply for affordable housing units for low- and middle-income households.
Private developers can play a crucial role in bridging the gap, the Riyadh-based real estate firm Best Choice said in a statement, citing industry reports.
Referring to estimates from the United Nations, the statement said the number of people living in cities is growing by an average of 2.1 percent every year, while the region’s population is continuously booming and is expected to reach 52.9 million by 2020.
Faced with the enormous challenge of providing decent living to the target income groups, the GCC states have implemented massive social housing projects, housing subsidy programmes, and accessible loan mechanisms to meet the high demand.
What do you think about the program?

Beautiful, cheap, re useable and quick ready made Porta cabin house is the answer for affordable housing.
I think Qatar faces rent increase and rent control shortage.
This is just a pure exploitation of situation of people. The bottom line is just live, or leave the country. This is the indirect message to all middle class families and low income expats. Just imagine we are living in paris where the cost of living is very high.
NO one is permanent resident except the locals. These expensive housing/rental business will become a ghost town after 2022 World Cup and construction boom is over.
Maybe the shortage isn't of affordable housing. Maybe the shortage is of fair wages.
@khalliwalli - In Qatar affordable housing means, there should be a availability of 1BHK in the range of 3k to 3.8k & 2BHK in the range of 4k to 5K, ain't it?
