RESIGNATION / ABSCONDING
Hi fellows, I am a nurse here in Qatar and I just arrived last May. I am still on probationary status and I still don't have my QID or license since those are still on process. However, I wish to resign because the contract which had been agree upon is not being followed. It says that we have 48 hours a week duty per week and one paid day off. Also the basic is 8hours. But it isn't what is happening. Our duty is 12hours per day, plus 1 hour travel time to our patient (homecare duty) and 1 hour travel time again after duty going to our accommodation. We don't also have a day off and HR said that the basic is 10hours. For a month now H haven't had a day off yet and we work almost 14 hours a day. Aside from that, our agency lied to us abot the nature of work here. We were informed that our duty involves a doctor and another nurse who will visit patients house. But what really happened when we arrive is we are having duties like of a private nurse. You are alone in the patient's house for 12hours. I really want to home and not finish the contract. I was advised to write a resignation letter but my fellow nurses here said that it wont work as there had been many nurses who tried but was not entertained by the office. Those nurses asked help in our embassy and were already sent home. I am just afraid and I don't know what to do. If I go to our embassy, I don't want to go back to our accommodation because I'm afraid something bad will happen to me. I want to just stay in the embassy while we sort things out but I'm afraid also if my employer file abandonment of duty on my part. Please advise me what to do as I am desperate to not continue my work here. Thank you very much!
First I need to ask you do you have a copy of your contract?
1) If yes check if you have a condition about resignation.
2) if there is no condition wright a formal letter to your employer. If he don t accept your resignation take a copy to Ministry of labor there is an office there who will force your employer to give you an exist permit.
3) if you have to pay money for your resignation before end of contract term then you have 2 options: you pay or you stay in place every day without working you arrive to job late you finish early and they will fire to stop the disaster.
4) call your embassy for legal advice but I will tell you since now that they will not help you as you expect.
6) tell me about your nationality and I will inform and provide you about the agreement between your country and Qatar about employment
Inform you embassy before your employer does anything mischief against you , pray hard , good luck , wish you victory ....................................................................................... Wed , 11.06.2014 , 06.18 hrs ..
Hi,
Have a speak with both HR and your embassy.
HMC is not a jailhouse. Granted I have not worked with them. However, I have spoken with HMC's HR and spoke to staff working here. They seem reasonable.
Worst case scenario your resignation will entail you departing Qatar.
