I am planning to buy 47" led tv here in doha and take it to india. I ll be very thankful if u advice me whether i shud take it with me while travelling or shud i send it by courior. which option is cheaper? any way to avoid to the customs duty at airport?:p
I compared the prices on flipkart..it will cost me same after paying the 36% duty u mentioned. I just want to know whther u are aware of any people still takin TVs to india without paying the customs duty ? i mean are the customs too strict abt this? or they will be fine wid some sort of settlement u no wat i mean:p;)
dont take any electronic items now to india, as all companies are charging installation charges ( minimum 5000 and above) and international warranty is not applicable now in India.
Please do not send by Cargo/Courier which will have shipping charges. Also they will take 2-4 weeks to deliver. No guarantee for safe delivery. If there is any damage very difficult to make a claim even if you pay insurance charges.
Earlier the Indian customs were allowing 32 inch TVs duty free. From Aug-28 -2013 they started charging duties for all TVs. The duty is around 36%.
Some times when there is offer in LED TVs here, like the one in Carrefour few weeks back which is buy 55 inch TV get 40 inch TV free then it may be worth taking even with duty. But please compare prices in Flip cart/ India Times shopping and also in Electronic stores in Mumbai. Many times there would be festival offers in India too. But please compare all the prices and also look for International Warranty which covers India too.
