Outlet selling soap containing pig fat closed
Authorities closed seven retail outlets and a store of a company for selling substandard traditional soaps.
The firm was found selling soaps that contained pig fat and some harmful substances, through its outlets, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.
It is also accused of providing misleading information to consumers about the contents of the product.
The fraud was detected during routine raids by inspectors from the Commercial Fraud Combat Section of the Consumer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce. During regular inspection at one outlet, inspectors became suspicious of the products and their ingredients.
They took samples and sent them to Central Laboratory at the Supreme Council of Health (SCH).
Results showed that the contents didn’t match with the specifications given in the product label. Pig fat and some chemicals that can cause cancer and skin diseases were also detected, said the daily.
The department seized all stocks and ordered the outlets closed.

"Peninsula" is hiding things & not mentioning it when required. Why hide when you need to open up to the public & say the product name? it is pointless even mentioning if you cannot be open. Consumers surely should have them at home by now. Be generous to inform the public about the prohibited product before its too late that hiding.

what's the use of reporting things like this if your not going to mention the name of the soap in question so people will be made aware? geez
Now all Soaps will be doubtful until unless the name of that brand will not be disclosed ...please share that brand name so that we can avoid that brand in future any where in world...
Shouldn't they give the name of this shop, so that all the people who are washing their hands, faces and bodies with pig fat can have the opportunity to throw the soap in the rubbish?
Hope we get to know the names of these brands,so that we could ignore such products in case they are still found decorating the market shelves.
I'm interested in knowing the product name not the shop name or location. If anyone of us have already bought that soap and have in store at our houses then we can discard it.
name and shame!
