Driver fined for hitting a pedestrian
A criminal court has fined a Nepali QR10,000 for driving recklessly and hitting a Bangladeshi who was crossing a road in the Industrial Area.
The motorist walked away with a fine because his victim did not suffer critical injuries, else, the punishment according to the traffic law is jail for one month to three years and a fine of QR10,000 to QR50,000 or both, local Arabic daily Al Raya said yesterday.
The convict confessed he was driving recklessly and was negligent during police interrogation, but denied the charge when the matter went to the Public Prosecution. Circumstantial evidence showed he was guilty.
Medical reports, though, to the convict’s good luck, showed that the victim had not suffered any injuries that would render him disabled, the daily said.
if a car is having compulsory third party damage insurance this will be shouldered by insurance company????? if the convict is not made accident by use of alcohol or any proven negligence........
Interesting thing is Government is taking the QAR 10,000 and not given to the bangladeshi.
Does your car insurance cover some/all of this payment? Or does the insurance company only help when it is blood money, and not a simple fine?
@ nom, if that happened to our staff, the company is helping the employee to get out of trouble and pay whatever is needed to be paid (if the employee can not afford it).... to be deducted in their salary eventually...
iam wondering how'll that nepali manage 10k
It's so infuriating to see that the high fences that the Qatar government is forced to build on the , such as on D-Ring road near Lulu, are pulled down and broken apart by people who want to risk their lives by running across the street like children. Why do they insist on risking their life, and mine, by ignoring the pedestrian crossings???
he's lucky it's not a Qatari he hit!
how many lives taken at old airport for the same problem?
I agree urstruly. Even when they build safe pedestrian crossings there are some morons who are too lazy to walk to them and cross safely. I've seen so many of these idiots trying to cross Salwa road by running across the traffic and then jumping over the divider, because they are too lazy to walk to the signaled crossing. They endanger their lives and the lives of other motorists.
Moreover, they have to build underpasses or overbridges in all busy streets to facilitate the pedestrians.
thank God both parties were lucky in this case. one would have lost his life and the other, QAR 200,000.
But the traffic department needs to introduce strict rules, fines, penalties for violating pedestrians too. everywhere you see idiots crossing through the middle of the road and not using zebra, crossing by zebra lines when the signal is green for the cars, jumping on to the road while talking on phone.. Qatar have to be strict like UAE where pedestrians are also fined for such violations.
Hope Bangla guy forgives his Nepali borther ............... '' Tue, 22.07.2014 , 11.17 hrs
