Socceroos take on Qatar this week
The Australian football team, known as the Socceroos, tackle Qatar this week, after failing to breach the United Arab Emirates' defence.
The result of their UAE friendly was a 0-0 stalemate at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium, Football Australia reported.
After the friendly against Qatar, Australia have just one more run-out - a potentially searching encounter with fellow AFC Asian Cup favourites Japan - before the tournament begins on home soil in January.
The 2022 World Cup hosts are ranked 11th in Asia, 96th in the world and go into this game fresh from two successive wins, having smashed Lebanon 5-0 last time out, which followed on from an impressive 3-0 win over Uzbekistan.
Skipper Meshal Abdulla has only scored four times in 26 appearances for his country, but the striker is in red hot form, with three of those goals coming in his last two matches.
More dangerous is naturalised Qatari Sebastian Soria.
The Uruguayan-born forward has banged in 29 goals in 99 international appearances and is also the scorer of the fastest hat-trick in AFC Champions League history - claiming three goals in a barely believable nine seconds.
Prior to those two big wins, both of which came at home, Qatar lost 2-0 at home to Peru, drew 0-0 with Morocco and 2-2 against Indonesia.
