"We Don't Want To Wake Up" - Qatar 2015
Qatar handball team made history this weekend when they beat Poland - they are the first non-European team to reach a Handball World Championship Final.
With Qatar through to the Finals, around 15,000 Handball fans are expected at Lusail Stadium, to watch the home team play against the competition favourites France.
After Friday's match Qatar's line player, Borja Vidal, said, 'It is like a dream for us and we don’t want to wake up before Monday morning”. The Team and Fans are grateful towards coach Valero Rivera, who has won over 70 titles/medals in his long career. Playmaker Kamalaldin Mallash likened Valero to a father figure and praised team spirit: 'Now, we are flying and feel like nothing can stop us. The team spirit is fantastic. We have become really close friends.'
On Sunday Qatar will face five-times Handball World Champions France, who have won the tournament trophy in 1995, 2001, 2009 and 2011.
The winning team will walk away with the Trophy and 100,000 Dollars of prize money. More important is the guaranteed spot in the Olympic Summer Games which will be held in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil next year.
We thought we would show some appreciation for the hard-working and dedicated sportsmen on Qatar's Handball Squad by sharing a few pictures of the Qatar Team from their Tournament matches. High-Fives All Around!
