These poor laborers need help.

I am having an issue regarding our company (intended to be discreet) about how workers are held overworked. I was working in this company for like a year now and. . just now - i realized how long our working time is. We signed a 10 hrs/day contract, with 2 days off per month and I already adjusted to that as well as the labors to be clear. The problem is that we head to work from our camp at exactly 5:45 am with 15 minutes travel time to our work place so 6:00 am we were there to do this "exercise/ stretching thing" as well as this "toolbox talks/meetings" that eats 30 minutes of our time- for the record -it's mandatory/compulsory to attend to as management said, but is not included in your working time. For the labors, they leave in their camp earlier than that since it's like an hour to get to the work site. Lunch time always depends on what is happening in the site, if they have this "Lunch overtime", they are intended to work just until the work is finish - imagine they had breakfast in camp for like 4:30 am and then they will have this lunch OT which gives them 7 hours of muscle work without eating - maybe that's why they're always having acid reflux and stomach aches. The lunch time takes 1 and a half hour. Then another 5 hours until the work is finished they will have their dinner for 30 minutes and then another overtime until 9:00 pm which is also compulsory, they'll go back to their camp with another 1 hour travel time. THEY JUST SLEEP for 6 hours and then wakes up early again to do the same routine. Now, we have a new schedule which is mandated for like, today, in which they adjusted the starting time to 6:00am - 11:30am and then lunch time of 11:30am - 1:30pm (2hours) then 1:30pm until 6:00pm. What is the lunch time of 2 hours for? These people are good people, overworked and tired because of this maltreatment. Plus, if you see their pay slip, it's pretty much not worth it. They can't even think straight or talk because of fatigue. If they can't fight for themselves I think someone must. Where can I file or send an email regarding this matter? Our accommodation is far from Doha City and with our schedule I don't have time to go there to file a complain so I think it would prefer a website where I can just post a complain. Thank you so much and God will surely bless you for all the help you can provide.

I don't see any violations by the company ..

Your company takes good care of its workers,

reg. salary ..If you feel the salary is too low, simply leave.

Dear Cherie,

At some instance i agree with you some of the companies labor may be going thru this scenario, But the real fact based on my personal experience which i have seen is this labor people are always crying and never satisfied with anything, you have to keep a person as supervisor over them to supervise or else they will not work properly, The amount of work they do on normal salary is less productive whereas if we give the same work with Sub-contract benefits to the same labor they finishes 1 months work in less than a weeks time. Umer Khayal i have seen many peoples coming upto Engineer level from labor categories its there will which make them think and develop unlike other labor they are still at helper levels. If you think Office peoples should get less salaries and labor should get more, Then there is no meaning to education, if a building fails only engineers will be held responsible not the labors, the design concepts the safety factors are calculated by engineers not the labors, Engineers are not only limited to office works he is involved from tender stage to handing over stage, i do believe there is not too much of physical load but either way he is always under mental pressure.............. good luck to all if you think positive you will see the things happening positively

Raw laborers have been going through this for centuries now almost every where. The ultimate solution is to educate them, train them, give them a skill and above all teach them how to nurse their rights.

Also try to see the other side of the picture, where laborers tend to take rest frequently on site, tend to waste time as and when they get such an opportunity, and the most difficult job is to put them on work in the face of so many people out there only supporting their rights. Their duties honestly should come first, which allows them to earn their rights.

Umer, My support is with them ......... all we want to get is the clear focus of this topic ......

For travel - nobody can help them ,

For Lunch , if they take food for 20 mins they can lie down & chat for 25 mins , this way they leave home early in the eve. Here they can save 1 hr & 15 mins.

This 1 hr - 15 mins they can watch TV or have some entertainment doze ....... ...

Sleep - Nobody sleeps more than 4 -5 hrs in this world , we just toss & turn after that .......

Overtime is for their benefit. More idle time more back biting like in the offices for example ....

Only issue is the basic salary , if it is upped by 25 % you will them happier ......
