Fire in Al Sailiya renders more than 400 expats homeless
A fire that broke out in a housing camp in Al Sailiya on Friday left approximately 300 Sri Lankans and 150 Nepalis temporarily homeless and reportedly killing two Bangladesh expatriates.
However, none of the Sri Lankan nationals have been injured in the fire, according to the Deputy General Manager and Media Spokesman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, Mangala Randeniya.
He stated that over Sri Lankan nationals employed at a cleaning company have been displaced due to the fire and that they have currently been provided temporary shelter at another camp.
Foreign Employment Bureau said that a group of officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy in Qatar have been dispatched to look into the displaced migrant workers.
The company officials have arranged accommodation in Shahaniya and were moved last night. Company officials also promised to give QAR 200 to each staff member for their immediate expenses. The company also promised to pay the April salary today.
In addition, the company is in the process of arranging uniforms and clothes. Employees will also receive some compensation for all losses after collecting the reports from from individual staff. The company has also said that it will allow staff to return to Sri Lanka if requested.
If you wish to help the displaced migrant workers, you get in touch with the community welfare members.
Why to return back ........... Let a needy company take over these hard working souls into their fold .............
The three-digit license plate is for show-off prupose. In coming to the aid of such people, one cannot show-off his wealth but can definitely win the hearts of many, get their prayers, and also a step closer to heaven.
C'mon guys. This is the "Richest Country in the World." They can easily fix this if they want. Do they want to, or do they want to buy a three-digit license plate instead for 3 million?

But I want to know how is it possable for 1 company to have 2 labour camps burn down in a span of 1 year and half and both fires to happend on a Friday at the around the same time . Is this a coincidence or not I wondor . I can confirm this the 2nd labour camp to burn down and heard not sure that it's the 3rd time it has happened.
I will match the 200qr, any one else wanna chip in? Just tell me when and whare.
If we cannot help them out in any way, let's not add salt to their wounds by just writing comments at QL. Surely, some local charitable organization should also step in to help.
This is where the Qatar Charities need to step in in the first instance.
Also, government bodies should ensure that the workers get back whatever they have lost..
Ofcourse it won't happen :O(
late news, anyway with this QR 200 all finish HA, what about the rest of they lost...............
200 QR o.O , wow that's amazing... they will pay the April salary today O.0 that's nice!!
Good job fire!
While QR 200 and the payment of salaries immediately is no doubt a good step forward, much more needs to be done by the expat community here to helps these people. The expat community should come forward and provide these fellow human beings with essential items for their needs, a list of which appeared yesterday at QL. The governments of each country whose workforce has been affected must also step in immediately to assist them. These workforce contribute millions of dollars to the foreign exchange of their countries through their remittances. This is the time for governments to stand by their side.
