How to get a motorcycle license in Qatar

How many times have you envied those cheeky bikers that squeeze through traffic? Motorcycles can sometimes be a great means to beat the traffic in Doha. It can also be a lot of fun and economical (let's ignore the danger factor for now).

However, to ride a motorcycle in Qatar, you are required to carry a valid Qatari driving license. Here's what you need to do before you can start riding your motorcycle.

1) Visit a driving school and enroll for a Qatar driving licensing course. Specify you want a motorcycle license while enrolling.

2) Complete your training lessons - usually 6 hours theory and 10 hours practical training.

3) Pass police test and claim your internationally recognized training certificate and Qatar driving license.

Please note: The minimum age for learning to ride a motorcycle is 18 years old.

Documents required to enroll

- No objection Letter from the sponsor in Arabic, addressed to The Manager, Traffic Department, Qatar. Mention the license type required i.e. "Motor Cycle"

- Copy of Company ID/CR copy is required for applicants under Company sponsorship; copy of sponsor QID is required for applicants under personnel sponsorship.

- Applicant's QID copy, in case if QID is under process, applicants may submit valid visa and passport copy.

- Visitors may also apply for Qatar Driving License by submitting copy of valid Business visa or visit visa along with passport copies.

- 4 color passport size photos.

- Eye test report (you can get one from any optician in Qatar)

Training Courses

You will have to spend at least 12 hours in training before you can get your motorcycle license. These hours will be split between theory and practical training. The practical lessons will be conducted on manual transmission motorcycles.

Therotical lessons - 6 (30 min sessions)

Practical lessons - 10 (1 hour sessions)

Driving Test

The driving test comprises the following:

Theory Exam

"S" track

Road test

Training completion certificates and driving license is issued immediately after passing the test. If you have a motorcycle license from another country, you can directly go for the test and get your license.

A full course will cost around QAR1300 with an additional QAR50 for the test. Fees for course and tests may vary depending on the driving school.

And one more info is that anyone with the above documents can apply for a Motorbike DL. There are no restrictions to anyone for a motorbike DL.

If you have a DL from your country or any countries, you only need to enroll for a half course... this applies to people who already knows to drive a motorbike.

I took a Bike Driving License on March 2017 this year. The above article is 100 % accurate.

The only missing info is that, after you pass the test, DL will be issued 1 - 2 days after the test date. And, in-order to get the DL, you'll have to pay an additional QR 100 - QR 150 at the Traffic Dept.

I took my DL from Al Khebra. The actual price was QR 1450, but as I paid it online through Al Khebra's website, I got QR 250 off. I paid only QR 1200.

For me, as I had my Indian DL, the procedures were very fast. I got my test date the same month and DL was issued 2 days after the test.

We may be responsible ...But what if the driver behind you is irresponsible.

Please note that the Driver behind is responsible for your life...not the responsible you

Khan, Even though it can be dangerous to ride here in Qatar, that danger can be reduced with responsible riding, learning about how your bike handles and improving your observations skills that you can recognize the idiot driver (car/truck/bus/4x4) and second guess what action he si about to take. But the biggest help on the roads here is to join an MC (Motorcycle Club) and ride as a group you will improve your skills very quickly and any nervousness on a bike will subside.

KHAN.

I heard from someone that only 5 Motorcycle License holder's have their valid license issued 10 years ago. All current license holders have issued the same within 5 years. My guess is that the rest must have died in accidents. Dont take this license if you love your life.

No they are not, you have to take the test. UK and other European are allowed license with no test if they already have a valid license from their respective country. Not sure about USA as the rules changed for them.

Sorry, but just because you have passed a test and if I am honest a blind man with one leg could pass the test, that does not mean you can ride a bike out here. The roads are dangerous and car drivers show little respect for bikers. If anyone does plan to become a biker remember "noise safes life's" the nosier the bike the better chance you will have at not being hit by some moron on a mobile.
