Over 65 counted dead after crane collapse in the holy city of Makkah
Before the annual pilgrimage of Hajj, dated 21-26 September, could start, the catastrophe of a crane collapsing on the Grand Mosque of Makkah has come to light.
An approximation of 65 dead and about 200 injured has been made. But the people at the place of the disaster have reported the number of casualties and dead to cross a thousand.
Cranes and other machinery surround the area due to the on-going construction. The fall of the crane is said to be due to lightning, rains and sand storm in the city. The tragedy is said to have occured at the time of Asr prayer.
The governor of the Makkah region, the capital of which is Mecca, Prince Khalid al-Faisal has ordered the launch of an investigation into the causes of the accident.
One of the five pillars of Islam requires every Muslim to perform the Hajj pilgrimage at least once in their lifetime. The Hajj is one of the largest annual gatherings of people in the world.
The Grand Mosque or Great Mosque of Mecca (also known as Masjid al-Haram) is the largest mosque in the world. It surrounds Islam’s holiest place, the Kaaba, in the city of Mecca. Muslims face in the direction of the Kaaba while performing their obligatory daily prayers.
We pray and hope that the souls of the pilgrims, who lost their lives in the tragic incident, rest in peace and may their families have the fortitude to bear the loss.
May the departed souls rest in perfect peace.
However, this should be a wake up call that we should be taking all appropriate and applicable safety measures in everything we are doing.
Though, we are still waiting for the accident investigation; and I want to believe that appropriate safety measures were taken before the accident happened.
Alas, if they think no need bcos it doesn’t rain much in Saudi; then i think they should have thought of the following points before erecting the crane:
1. The number of people that will be coming to the mosque daily (we all know that thousands of hundreds of people do worship there).
2. Wind/ storm, there might not be much rain but sure we do experience strong wind/storm.
3. Proximity of where the cranes were erected to other buildings.
4. Movement of other vehicles and or earth moving equipments.
5. et cetera.
SO SADDEN... MY CONDOLENCE TO THE CONCERNED FAMILIES AND ENVIRONMENT
It is Allah wish, may he blessed them all to Jinnah.
inna lilahi wahina ilahi rojiun may their soul rest in peace and may Almighty Allah protect us from dis calamiyty Date 9/11
I don't think it was considered otherwise such a tragic incident would not have taken place. Possibly, it was not considered because Makkah receives very little rainfall every year and thunderstorms are rare. It does witness dust storms though occasionally.
"The strong winds and thunderstorm that led to the collapse of the crane must not have been taken into consideration by the safety people at the site while the crane was being erected. " ?????
I would have assumed that this would have been considered
Brit, How much we struggle to understand nature & and it's fury ....... that won't be sufficient ever .......... because a frog won't understand the entire ocean in his full life same will be true for his future generations ............ ......... better just bow ..............
Even after all safety precautions are taken, there are many things that remain in the hands of Allah. Life and death are among them. The strong winds and thunderstorm that led to the collapse of the crane must not have been taken into consideration by the safety people at the site while the crane was being erected. It is just a very unfortunate incident that has occurred when Hajj is about to begin.
Surely. But does that mean one shouldn't investigate
All of those who died inside the Haram will surely get a place a heaven.
Brit, You are correct but still to err is human .......... the company will definitely be competitive enogh to ensure safety at the project but again we cant do anything even after taking extra care .........................
MM: When building cranes and towers, we mitigate risks by taking into account the weather and related aspects.
It's a clear natural disaster ................... ............. beyound human control .................
Weather was very cruel with all that lightening ............. ........................ .................... ............... .........................
We can't do anything when nature is against us. ...................... ....................... ........................
So sad ......... May the departed souls rest in peace ................ .............. ................ ............. .............
VERY SAD ALLAH GIVE SABR TO THIER FAMILIES.
INNA LILLAHE WA INNA ILAHE RAJEOON.
The death toll now stands at 107.
There is always something bad happening on 9/11!
Very sad. May Allah rest their souls in peace and give a rapid cure for all wounded pilgrims, Ameen.
Investigation is must required about the whole incident including installation details of the crane against heavy wind pressure in case of uncertainity like that and immediate orders require by Govt. to dismantle all same types of mechanical cranes around the surrounding till the Holy occasion of Hajj is completed.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un .....
May they rest in peace. Hope there is a thorough investigation
