First dental care clinic for those with special needs opens in Qatar
For the first time in the Middle East, a dental clinic for people with special needs has been opened at Al-Wakra Hospital (AWH).
The clinic is the first of its kind and will cater to kids as well as to adults with special needs.
According to Dr. AbdulHakim Ahmad Al-Yafei, the head of the Dentistry Department at the AWH, the clinic is equipped with all facilities and state-of-the-art equipment.
He also has mentioned in The Peninsula that the clinic is also staffed with a hardworking team consisting of 3 consultants and 2 specialists.
The clinic will respond to all oral and dental healthcare like, tooth extraction, filling and implants, orthodontics, prosthodontics and treatment of caries and gingivitis.
Even the doors of the clinic have been made wider than the ordinary ones to allow access to patients with immobility impairment.
One can also find special lifting machines that can lift a weight of about 400kg in the clinic. These have been installed in order to enable treatment for patients on wheelchairs.
Dr Ohoud Al Kuwari, Dentist at the AWH said, “Our hospital is receiving more children with special needs because we found that about 30 percent of all children seeking dental care were special needs children and we concluded that there was a real need to open a special clinic to these patients”.
