Mathaf named ‘Best Emerging Culture Destination: Middle East’ at the LCD Oscar awards
Qatar Living had announced that the LCD awards, held on the 9th of October, would declare the leading cultural destinations of 2015.
This had Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) and Mathaf: Arab Museum for Modern Art from Qatar, contesting for the awards.
The Overall Winner is awarded to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York and it has been recognized as the Leading Cultural Destination of the year.
Sadly, MIA which contested along with Fondation Louis Vuitton, France, under the sphere of ‘Best architecture & spatial design’, was not considered for the title.
The latter was proclaimed as the winner for the same.
However, under the title of ‘Best Emerging Culture Destination: Middle East’, Mathaf has been declared as the winner.
Mathaf was competing against monuments from the UAE, Israel and Oman; whereas MIA against structures from France, Spain, Russia and U.S.
