Hello, I am from Bangladesh and working in Qatar. I want to get married to a Filipina who is also working in Qatar. We are both Muslims. Can I get some advice regarding the procedure to follow in order to get married in Qatar? Like which authority to contact and what are the documents to compile. Thanks in advance.

It may require few trips to embassies, photocopying, digging out certificates, and the usual passport-sized photographs.

The Embassy and consulate staffs also sometimes perform civil marriage ceremonies, when certain requirements are met.

After the ceremony, the Marriage Certificate, together with its Arabic translation, should be registered at the Ministry of Justice, behind the City Centre Mall, then the registration be attested at Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Newly married couples are also advised to get their marriage documents attested at their own embassies also.

You can have an Islamic wedding at the Sharia Court, which is located on Al Rayyan Road near Mannai Roundabout in the Musheireb area. You must provide two witnesses for the marriage.

There is no civil marriage for non-Muslims. However, you and your fiance should contact your respective embassies to find out what paperwork is required so that the marriage is also recognised in your home countries. I am sure the Philipines Embassy has all the details and can perform a civil service also.

Good Luck!
