Latent Tuberculosis
Hi everyone, I have recently offered a job as a captain in Qatar airways and I am really concerned about the medical. The thing is that I have to resign from my current job in order to start the process of the medical etc. Since I was a kid I had latent tuberculosis which means that it was never an active disease and I was totally immunized through treatment. In Europe this is not a problem with the medical. I have read that the GAMCA medical is really strict with TB. DO I have any chances of being accepted or not?
Thanks!
If possible, get a certification from your doctor that you were successfully treated and don't have active tb. I have similar case, wherein I was asked to show certificate. Since I didn't have any, I had to undergo the tests and procedures.
If you don't have active infection, but had TB in the past, you will take 3 months or so.
You might be referred to the TB clinic where they will check for active infection. If they don't find any active infection, you will be able to continue doing your job,but they will prescribe preventive medication for 6 months. This is a general situation for office going employees not in certain professions like healthcare
So you need to check if the medical laws for airlines are stricter or not as you deal with public.
I current have two co-workers who also have latent tuberculosis. Their Visa took three months and a few extra doctor's visits, but they did get their resident cards.
Thank you guys for the replies, I am thinking of getting an X-ray here at home just to see if there is a scar or not, and then decide I guess!
If your chest x Ray is normal, it shouldn't be a problem
I have heard that there is zero tolerance, yet this should be confirmed .
Perhaps someone from QA can give proper advice
Good luck
Suggest you don't take the risk. From what I have read at QL, I understand they are very strict. You will lose your current job since you would have resigned and may not be able to join Qatar Airways.
